A Pleasant Trip to GameStop

Wow. After all these years of loathing GameStop, I think they may have softened my heart of stone. Tonight, I finally decided to bite the bullet and trade in a big pile of games in order to save money on some of the upcoming Winter releases. I figured full well that I might get ripped off (last year I traded in 6 games for a total of like 35 bucks), but that I needed to save wherever I could, lest the wife take out her vengeance.

I was pleasantly surprised.

The manager was very friendly, and very helpful with taking my games and telling me what they were worth. He was also scanning in several promotions to ensure that I saved the most money on my trade-ins. Coincidentally, if you are wanting Gears II or Fallout 3, you get an additional 20% added to your trade-ins, so you’d better get on that.

Anywho, all in all, trading in about 12 games netted me just under $180 total. I was shocked, since that’s about $15 on average per game, a much better value than I would have expected. Perhaps GameStop after growing so large has been able to scale back on what they give back to customers.

It was a pretty sweet experience, and I ended up paying for all of Gears of War 2 and putting down $10 each on Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead. I’ve even got about $70 left over to do other stuff with. This is kind of awesome, because I was planning on spending around $200 on games this season, and now I can spend less than that and probably end up with more games for it.

If you’re curious, here are the games I traded in:

  • Mario Kart DS
  • Meteos DS
  • New Super Mario Bros DS
  • Elite Beat Agents DS
  • Super Mario Galaxies
  • Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • NCAA 2008
  • NBA 2k8
  • Grand Theft Auto IV
  • Call of Duty IV
  • Fight Night Round 3
  • Rainbow Six: Vegas

Good times! So all in all, thanks GameStop, you may be proving me wrong and turning things around.

  1. Yeah, I always questioned your hatred of Gamestop. I would have called you an ignorant bastard who is fueled by wrath for an unseen evil, but luckily you’ve seen the light.

But why did you sell CoD4? I’d keep that as a classic, and in case I had an urge to spank noobs with an AK-47 again if I got tired of the Tommy Gun. Whatever.

  2. I know what you mean. About 2 weeks ago, I traded in my Wii and a couple of games and ended up with 320 bucks or about what I would have sold it to a friend for. Pretty sweet deal from a retail store.

  3. Haha, well I had some pretty crappy experiences at GameStop stores before. But like I said, they seem to be doing better. And really, I’m not the kind of guy to go back and play a CoD 4 again. Too busy to replay old games, there are enough new ones to get going with.

  4. There’s always multiplayer! That’s all I do on CoD4 now, keeps me pretty satisfied. And that’s probably why you got so much, you sold a bunch of games that most people would hardly ever sell.

  5. Yeah, I forgot to mention my brother, who traded in not only a pile of games, but also a Wii. He got $250 in total.

He kept urging me to trade mine in and I was extremely tempted.

  6. Aww, you make me feel so angry, but in a humorous way. I love my Wii, but I can’t help but agree with you. They don’t have enough developers focused on making quality games yet, but they’re getting there. I’m waiting on CoD5 on it, hopefully it comes out better than CoD3 (which I did enjoy despite some worse reviews and the many glitches, it’s just a fun system on Wii). I’m hearing CoD3 had it’s own team working on the Wii version, yet it was still glitchy, and the same is going on for 5. I can only wish they get it right.

  7. Ugh, this is hard for me to do. I really need to do what you just did but I really don’t want to (Thanks for reminding me I need to get galaxy back from a friend and trade that hoe in too haha)

I really need to trade in a lot of my old games. The only ones I should keep are the burgerking games (Because those are funny, even though I DONT play them, I kinda dont want to sell them) and other than that GTA4, AC6, TFU, FC2, Halo 3 are the only games I should keep. WHile I like R6V2, I dont play it and all the other games just sit there. I am gunna sell back MK and Galaxy too. I should go do this this week 🙁

Its kinda hard to part with them though, because I feel liek I may just want to play them. I should ditch those burger king games though hahaha
