Rumor: Leaked Beyond Good and Evil 2 Footage?

Not many people played Beyond Good and Evil, which is a shame because it was one of my favorite games of last generation. Much to the happiness of fans, a sequel is coming. Well, it seems that some dudes may have stumbled across a leaked video of Beyond Good and Evil 2, and posted it on the Web for our viewing.

While it’s not confirmed that this is Beyond Good and Evil 2, anyone that has seen the first one can recognize the style of the government soldiers, as well as Jade. And let me be the first to say that this video is incredible. I don’t think it’s actual gameplay, but seems to be more of a target render. If they get anywhere within 50 percent of what they show in this video, I’ll be a happy man.

Who played the first Beyond Good and Evil? Who else thinks this is awesome, if it is indeed the sequel?

Red Dead Redemption: Debut Trailer

I never played the original Red Dead Revolver for the PS2, but I heard it was at least decent enough. Created by Rockstar, the dudes that make Grand Theft Auto, this new Red Dead Redemption trailer is all kinds of awesome. I really love the atmosphere, and I’ve always wished for more great Western-themed games. Who else thinks this looks promising? Did anyone play the original?

GamerSushi Asks: Beyond Good and Evil?

bgeBeyond Good and Evil was secretly one of the best games of last gen. Playing a lot like one of the more recent Zelda entries, it had an engrossing story, great writing and characters that you really cared about. It was easily in my top 5 games that I played on the PS2, which is a pretty solid list, if you ask me.

The creator, Michael Ancel (the dude behind Rayman) just did an interview recently where he talked about some of the issues and inspirations behind the game and its upcoming sequel, which include 9/11 and Miyazaki, the man who created great anime features such as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. I think one of the coolest things about Beyond Good and Evil was not only its imaginative world, but also the themes of a planet besieged by a foreign threat and a corrupt government. One comment in particular struck me, as he spoke about games like Zelda being out of touch, because they don’t focus on things that are current or relevant.

It just goes to show that there are some creators out there trying to push the envelope in gaming, and I love them for it. I can’t wait for Beyond Good and Evil 2. So, did you guys ever play the first game? If you haven’t I highly recommend it. It’s fairly cheap on Steam. It really is a remarkable experience.

Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Trailer

I’ve never played the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS, but I hear that it’s a solid and really fun handheld title, if not one of the better Zelda titles. Nintendo has just introduced a new DS Zelda game, Spirit Tracks, which might just continue the goodness. I have to say that some of the gameplay on here looks like a sweet time. Count me interested!

Did any of you play Phantom Hourglass? Thoughts?

Today’s ZOMG: New Uncharted 2 Screenshots

uncharted2I’ve said plenty of times that I find Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune to be one of the unsung heroes so far for this generation. It’s a shame the game was only on the PS3, which meant that only a small pocket of the gaming community at large got a chance to share in its platforming, cinematic joy. Bummer.

However, I’m still stupid excited for the game’s follow up, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Some brand new screenshots released today that about made me slap a bear in the face. These new pictures are not only gorgeous, but they may sport some of the best graphics I’ve ever seen.

Seriously, go look. This rates high on the “do want” meter. Very high, indeed. Who played the first game and wants the second?

A Shadow of the Colossus Retrospective

sotcShadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite PS2 games, if not one of my favorite games, of all time. It is one of the prime examples of “games as art” that we have at this point, and might go down as the Citizen Kane of gaming, or something comparable. Everything from the design, to the story and the gameplay, all work in tandem to create a one of a kind experience.

However, not everyone has had the fortune of playing this fine piece of gaming history. Including the dudes over at Crispy Gamer, who have put up what is essentially a play-by-play of Shadow of the Colossus, as they go through it for the first time. It really is fascinating to read someone’s first time experiences of it as they beat each colossus, and it made me want to pick the game up and play it again after all these years.

Definitely worth the read. How many of you guys have played Shadow of the Colossus? How many would put it in your top 10 favorite games?

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings Trailer

While the latest Indiana Jones movie wasn’t so hot (wtf aliens), there’s always been a lot of potential to extend the life of the franchise through the medium of video games. Here’s a new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, coming to the Wii. Even though it doesn’t show any actual gameplay, I have to say, it definitely has the right feel. I’m actually a little excited.

Review: Prince of Persia

prince-of-persiaThe Sands of Time, the Warrior Within and the Two Thrones were some of favorite games on my PS2, especially the Sands of Time. The fantastic controls, the platforming, the sweaty palms as I guided the Prince past buzzsaw traps and rolling logs with spikes…all of it made for a fantastic gaming experience.

So with great excitement, I started on this latest adventure. First thing to note is that this is not a sequel or a prequel or anything like that. It is a reboot, no characters return except the Prince (who isn’t even a prince now) and Farah (who is now a donkey). This kind of thing never really bothers me, so I can’t blame the developers for wanting to start fresh on a new console.

Drake’s Precarious Uncharted 2 Trailer

Seriously, if you own a PS3 and haven’t played Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, you really need to check it out. It’s one of the best games on the PS3, and is just a good old fashioned fun time. A new trailer appeared for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves last night at the VGA’s, along with some ridiculous high-res screenshots over at NeoGAF.

This trailer captures that cinematic flair that made the first game so fun. Can’t wait to play it.

Eidos Wants Negative Tomb Raider Reviews Delayed

In today’s gaming culture and in the age of Metacritic, this isn’t all that surprising, but it seems that Eidos is asking that anyone who gives the new Tomb Raider a score under an 8 has to delay their reviews. Basically, they’re trying to boost the game’s Metacritic score in order to persuade buyers.

While I understand it in the business sense, it’s kind of shady seeing as how Eidos was part of the whole Gerstmann-gate/Gamespot scandal all those many months ago. It’s not entirely too shocking that video game companies have this kind of hold over the reviewers that they advertise with, but it really is just another sign that gaming editorials these days are jacked.

It especially makes me miss Dan Hsu, former editor-in-chief at EGM, who always took the ballsiest stance possible against these kinds of shenanigans. What do you guys think of Eidos’ policy on game reviews- fair or foul?

GTA IV DLC: THE LOST AND THE DAMNED ON FEB. 17

USA Today scooped us all and has an article detailing GTA IV’s DLC, due out on Feb. 17th, 2009. It’s called “The Lost and the Damned” and will star Johnny Klebitz, a member of Liberty City biker gang The Lost.

Dan Houser of Rockstar is quoted saying:

Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background. I can’t go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City

No pricing details have been released yet.

So I don’t have a 360, but I am sure this will make its way to PS3…anyone set for another visit to Liberty City?

Another Prince of Persia Story Trailer

Sigh. Another really cool trailer for Prince of Persia. I guess you can watch it and get happy or something. Me? I’ll just sulk because it means another $60 out of my pocket. Thanks video gaming. You rule like a kick in the nuts.

Lord of the Rings: Conquest Trailer

Lord of the Rings: Conquest is a game much like Star Wars: Battlefront, only in the LOTR universe that we know and love from J.R.R. Tolkien. It’s coming out in early January 2009, and features a bunch of multiplayer options to place you and some other dudes in the shoes of hobbits, elves, orcs and apparently, much bigger foes.

I got to have some hands-on time with this game at PAX, and it was pretty enjoyable even at those earlier stages. It reminded me a lot of Battlefront, and that’s never a bad thing. Check out the trailer. Anyone interested?

Penny Arcade Episode 2 Out Next Week

As if there’s not already enough great games to play, Penny Arcade’s Xbox Live Arcade and PC title, “On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 2” is going to hit next week, on October 29th. It will run about $14.95 in moneyz or 1200 MS Points, depending on which medium you choose to play it in.

Supposedly it totals in at around 6-10 hours of gameplay, with more levels than the first, new areas, and new jokes, of course. I’m not sure how many of you guys were able to play the first game, but I found it to be pretty enjoyable, especially for an XBLA title. I’d definitely recommend checking it out if you’ve got the MS points, or if you’re a fan of PA in general.

Also, Episode One is finally hitting the PSN this week as well, so if you’re a Sony guy, you can finally experience that.

Dragon Age Coming to Consoles?

One of the more interesting things I saw at PAX a few months back was Dragon Age: Origins, from famed developer Bioware. It looks to have some great hack and slash gameplay and a great story to boot. From what I saw, it was one of my more anticipated games of the next year along with Diablo III.

Well, for those of you who refuse to play games on your PC, this should be some good news, then. It seems that Dragon Age is coming to consoles in late 2009. A Bioware dude even confirmed that it would be coming to both the 360 and the PS3.

Trust me, this is good news. This game is going to be awesome. Who’s excited?

TGS: Prince of Persia Trailer

Since the Tokyo Game Show is now in full swing, expect all kinds of crazy news and videos for the next few days. Among these is this gem of a trailer for the new Prince of Persia game (coming December 2nd), which I admit to being completely disinterested in until I saw a similarly awesome trailer for it at PAX.

I loved the first game in the series, and after that it started going downhill. This looks to be a step in the right direction, and I have to say, the art style is just gorgeous. Who else is pumped for this game?

New, Unique Ideas Coming to Next Zelda

Poor Link. He’s gone from 2D to 3D to cel shading to dark and gritty. He’s been all over the place.

Actually, come to think of it, the only thing that’s changed about him since Ocarina of Time is the way he looks. The core of all of the Zelda games has remained unchanged for some time now, but it looks like Shigeru Miyamoto, the man behind Link, has implied he wants to rectify this for the next iteration of the franchise.

According to him, something new is coming.

New Final Fantasy for the Wii

Since the Tokyo Game Show is on its way soon, you can expect tons of new info to come out of Japan like this over the next few weeks. In the newest issue of Shonen Jump, Square Enix has dropped that a new FF: Crystal Chronicles game is coming to the Wii in January.

The new game is called Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time. It’s no Final Fantasy XIII, but hey, Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy. Apparently, it’s coming to the DS too, and will allow online playability between DS and Wii users.

Today’s WTF: Wario Dominates YouTube

This falls under the category of the oh-so-rare “good” WTF. Nintendo just put up a new Wario video on YouTube, and I demand that you go watch it. It’s a very clever piece of marketing from Nintendo, and I admit to giving out a “WTF” once I saw that something wasn’t quite what it seemed.

Normally, I would just embed this, but in this one instance, it would kind of ruin what Nintendo’s got going on. So go ahead. Go check out Nintendo’s YouTube Wario video. You won’t regret it.

Heavy Rain Equals No Do-Overs

If you’re unaware the upcoming PS3 game Heavy Rain, by Quantic Dreams, you should familiarize yourself with it. From the makers of Indigo Prophecy, it is an incredibly cinematic game that lets the character play it almost like an interactive movie, and from the looks of it, is going to be something special.

One interesting thing, though: the creator, David Cage says that you can even continue to play the game after the main character dies.
