Getting Addicted to Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V

Guys, I have a confession.

You see, in the last couple of weeks I’ve developed a bit of an addiction. Every day at work, my mind is driven by thoughts of drugs, violence, theft, mayhem and destruction. At night my actions are guided by these impulses, and I disappear into the dark underbelly of my psyche to participate in grotesque fantasies, some of which leave people bloodied and battered.

Of course, I’m talking about Grand Theft Auto V here, Rockstar’s record-breaking new game that puts you in the shoes of the retired thief Michael, the up-and-coming gangster Franklin and the maniacal, homicidal addict Trevor. I can’t get enough of it.

From the side quests to the mission structure to the story itself, everything about Grand Theft Auto V feels polished, scrubbed hard enough to remove the stink on the series that was left in my nose from the previous entry in the series. Los Santos feels so alive in every aspect, and from the opening moments I haven’t been able to keep myself from getting drawn in day in and day out. And that’s not even mentioning the heists, the biggest breath of fresh air that the series has probably seen in the last decade.

And seriously, I’m addicted to this. I know that a game’s got me bad when I get up at 5:30 in the morning so I can play just a little bit before work, investing in stocks and completing activities to make my characters more well-rounded. It’s that bad.

So how many of you are playing GTA V? What’s the last game that you guys found yourselves addicted to in this way? Go!

  1. I’m playing GTA right now and loving it. The story is great (Trevor might be one of my all time favorite game characters), the missions are actually fun to do (GTA IV I’m looking at you), and the gameplay itself is fun. I’m having a great time with it, however unfortunately I’ve been so busy lately that I’ve only been able to play it in small doses. This is probably a good thing, however, since besides Beyond: Two Souls, I won’t be buying new games until November when I pick up my Xbox.

  2. I pre-ordered GTAV and I really enjoy it. Unfortunately I’ve kinda forgotten about it and now my younger sister is further in it than I am.
