Do you ever miss the old days, when it seemed like every kid had tons of unwanted games, ready for some no-strings-attached swapping? Growing up, I remember having tons of friends in our neighborhood who were always looking for something new to play, and would gladly trade their games for some of my old, unwanted ones. As I’ve gotten older, that community trading aspect gradually faded, except with close friends.
Enter 99 Gamers, a new trading community built around the idea of swapping games with other gamers for free. 99 Gamers was built with that old school neighborhood flavor in mind, and is built around letting its users send their games to each other for free.
How it works: every game on the site is worth a certain amount of “coins,” with newer games or rare games worth more coins than older or more readily available titles. If you want, you can spend money to buy more coins, to help your trade-in value match the game you want — this keeps people from trading in Dragon Age 2 for something like Final Fantasy VI on the SNES, something that’s harder to come by.
And speaking of the SNES, 99 Gamers also lets you trade in games for classic systems as well, including the Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, and then some. If you’ve got an old system and haven’t been able to find (or want to spend the money on) certain classics, this might be the way to do it.
Honestly, this sounds like it could be a cool alternative to trading in games via GameStop or Amazon, and far less expensive down the line, as well. But honestly, it’s probably most useful to those of you with huge collections that you don’t play any longer, and want to turn around for some of the titles you may have skipped.

Since my game collection is primarily digital, I don’t really have much of a use for a site like this. However, every now and then I’ll have PS3 games to get rid of, and I’ll be damned if I trade in another title to GameStop.
