The GamerSushi Power Rankings: July 2013

Company of Heroes 2

Half of 2013 has come and gone, and maybe it’s just me, but this year already seems like it’s offered us some huge surprises — almost too many, if my nasty backlog is any indication. Fortunately, July is the month that we can sort of start catching up, putting old titles behind us in preparation for the blitzkrieg of the fall.

That’s not to say there aren’t any new titles worth playing, though. Between The Last of Us, Animal Crossing 3DS and Company of Heroes, we’ve had our hands full. You’ll see these guys making appearances in our monthly top 10, along with some old classics. So here we are, the top 10 games we’ve been playing for the last 30 days.

What do you guys think of this list? What are you playing right now? Go!

1 The Last of Us The Last of Us
Stealth, feels, story, cinema. The Last of Us tells an apocalyptic tale in a way that few games have even come close to matching. Hail Naughty Dog!
2 Borderlands 2 Borderlands 2
Thanks to the new Tiny Tina DLC, everyone’s back up in this heezy on the for reezy. Was that racist?
3 Animal Crossing: New Leaf Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Apparently planting fruit and running off new visitors in Assville is crazy addictive. Who knew? Send help for Mitch.
4 Company of Heroes 2 Company of Heroes 2
Some of us swore we were done with the RTS genre after StarCraft 2’s addictive play, but COH2 goes a long way with WW2, tanks and snow!
5 Final Fantasy VI Final Fantasy VI
After several years of swearing up and down to do this, Eddy finally completed Final Fantasy VI. An astounding, classic game that still holds up well today.
6 Super Mario Land 3DS -1 Super Mario Land 3DS
I know, we’re suddenly all about the 3DS here at GamerSushi. But hey, it’s-a-him, Mario!
7 Metal Gear Solid 3 Metal Gear Solid 3
Still one of the greatest games ever made. Snake Eaterrrr!
8 Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Remember what we said about the backlog? That’s why Anthony’s doing this, and it turns out he’s still got the multiplayer magic.
9 Skyrim Skyrim
Another backlog game, but hey, stealing from every single villager in Skyrim always was and always will be a blast.
10 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive -4 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Arms Race, why you got to be so addictive, huh?

  1. I’m rocking Deadpool and Animal Crossing right now. Animal Crossing is outstanding, it’s crazy how at first it seems like a standard Animal Crossing game, but then it slowly opens up with the public works and other additions. And Deadpool is way better than most critics say, IMO. I would still give it a 7 or a C+/B- on the ol’ GS scale, (critics talk about 7’s like they’re 4’s, though). The gameplay has nothing that you haven’t seen somewhere else (and done better), but as a huge Deadpool fan the game was an absolute blast. Nolan North knocks it out of the park, and the game’s zaniness was incredibly welcome after the downer that was The Last of Us. I’m currently on my second playthrough getting dem chievos.

  2. Yeah I’m hooked on Animal Crossing as well. It’s my first Animal Crossing game and I’m loving it. I’m currently making it my goal to propose and fund public work projects in one day. That’s a lot of trips to the island!

As for Deadpool, I watched the GB Quick Look and I was disappointed to see that it’s the “LOL SO FUNNY” Deadpool from Daniel Way’s era. Not a fan of that interpretation of the ‘Pool.

  3. Also hooked on Animal Crossing. Askarn is a thriving village.

Trying to finish up Skyrim as well. Starting to sprint through it because OMG SO MUCH STUFF

  4. @Mitch
Yeah it’s written by Daniel Way, so it’s going to be that sort of Deadpool. I prefer the lower key Deadpool as well, but it’s still highly entertaining. Better than nothing, for sure. I would recommend a rental or a cheap Steam sale buy.

  5. Ah, I didn’t know it was actually written by Way, I just thought that whoever wrote it was aping his style. I’m liking Posehn and Duggan’s take on Deadpool for Marvel NOW!, though.

  6. It’s depressing that the only game on that list I have played is FF VI. What I’m playing at the moment is Just Cause when I’m at home and Little Inferno during my lunch breaks at work.

  7. @Xhonj, I’ve got Little Inferno (got a free copy) and I didn’t really understand the point. You just… burn digital things… and then you burn some more. Didn’t really seem like it was going anywhere.

  8. Ive been playing TLOU, but in between that ive been working on my backlog. Playing X-COM, some of the Persona series, and Plants Vs Zombies 2

  9. @JJ I got it as part of the recent Humble Bundle deal. It is just mostly burning things over and over again, there are stars you can get for burning certain items together. There is a kind of story going on but not much of one and I think it is trying to talk about how commercialised we are but maybe I’m reading to much into it.

I just completed it anyway which only takes a couple of hours so now moving on to Wolfenstein 3D. My Steam account is at over 200 games and I am determined to at least try all of them!
