April Fools: Disney Poised to Ink Deals for Video Game Theme Park

Disney World

Talk about dreams come true. For anyone that’s known the magic of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter or the Star Wars-themed rides at Disney, things are about to get even more amazing. According to Forbes, The Walt Disney Company is set to ink separate deals with several big name publishers to create a video game themed section of Disney World.

At the moment, only the likes of LucasArts, Bethesda, Blizzard, Sega and Ubisoft have signed on, but Walt Disney Imagineering senior director Jonathan Ackley remains hopeful that more will follow suit to be a part of this landmark deal. Said Ackley, former video game designer on the likes of great LucasArts titles like Day of the Tentacle, The Curse of Monkey Island and Full Throttle:

Video games naturally lend themselves to these amazing, interactive experiences. We would love to get some of the big guys on board like Valve, EA, and Activision. There are some cool concepts floating around the offices and hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

When asked for comment on whether or not we’d see Valve games come to the most magical place on Earth, Gabe Newell pointed out that as EA is a publishing partner in their most recent endeavors, so the deal is sitting in their hands at the moment. EA is reportedly waiting for word from Disney about whether or not they can charge for individual components of rides, with players swiping credit cards to continue past certain hills in roller coasters, etc.

As of yet, Microsoft and Sony have denied any reports that they’ve been speaking with Disney about the supposed theme park, but other sources claim that Sony heard the idea and decided they would just make their own, while Microsoft isn’t sure if an actual, physical theme park is as interactive as their Kinect 2.0. Nintendo couldn’t be reached for comment, either, because apparently they would only accept contracts via FAX.

On the slate at the moment are a Skyrim themed village, a parkour cityscape set to Assassin’s Creed, an interactive dungeoneering experience a la Diablo and, quote, “some shit with Sonic.” No word as of yet on the LucasArts attractions, but only time will tell.

What do you guys think of this supposed deal with Disney? What rides and attractions would you like to see, and what video game publishers do you hope to sign on? Go!
