Dead Space 3’s Co-op Gets a Chilly Reception

There are no secrets in the video game industry, which is why we knew about Dead Space 3’s co-op mode almost a week before its official debut at the E3 press conference. Even though we knew it was coming, we didn’t know what it would look like, so the six-minute on stage demo was enough to get a good idea. Here’s that demo so you can watch for yourself:

So what do you guys think? Is it a little too action packed for your taste? How will Visceral Games maintain the horror with two people running and gunning? How does new character John Carver compare to Isaac Clarke? Speak up!

  1. Oh man, this new Gears of Wars gameplay is pretty rad :D!

    Oh, wait…

    Why.
Dead space has its own gameplay style and personality. Why did you do this?

  2. I swear, EA’s treatment for this game was just a memo saying “Hey, you know what this scary survival horror genre needs? Some annoying and not-scary carnival ride-style co-op!”

  3. I never played Dead Space 1 or 2, and i realize I’ve missed a huge part of gaming culture this generation, but being a gamer that loves co-op games this could prove a nice entry into the Dead Space universe and make we want to play the first two. It could be a way to push Dead Space to a newer audience as well…or it could be just a ploy to steal our money.

If you want to play the game solo, you can, and the AI partner won’t even be there. If you play co-op, the character will be there, and you’ll get extra cutscenes that involve that character being there. So there will be a choice, rather than having it forced on you.
