Radiohead’s OK Computer Gets Chiptuned

This might be the coolest thing I have seen in a long time, but that might also just be the fanboy in me talking. Radiohead is my favorite band and OK Computer is my favorite album of all time. I also happen to have a fondness for 8-bit NES music. Apparently, someone out there named Quinton Sung saw into my soul and with a flash of inspiration, he recorded OK Computer and Kid A in glorious 8-bit. It’s pretty awesome to listen to, especially “Let Down”, which sounds like a Final Fantasy theme. Take a listen to OK Computer below and hit the link at the bottom to listen to Kid A. What say you? What other albums would you like to hear get the 8-bit treatment? GO!

  1. Man, I got this album from a friend of mine for a birthday before I really cared for Radiohead. Definitely some awesome songs that have stuck with me ever since. Of course, Paranoid Android really stands out, especially when it’s done like this!

This is great, thanks for the share.

  2. Pretty awesome. I’ve had several bouts of complete Radiohead obsession over the years, and this definitely hits a sweet spot. Loved the treatments of Exit Music and Let Down. Electioneering makes me want to play Double Dragon.

  3. I know a lot of people who really dig the 8-bit and 16-bit sounds. I personally understand how they could be appealing, but never really found it to be that nostalgic. I think it has to do with what I grew up gaming on. My first fondest gaming memories came from N64 games rather than something off the NES or SNES, so I think that has a lot to do with it. I know several others who like to develop music in the 8-bit style too. I guess it really is a generational thing.

Sadly I do not know much about radiohead, which I completely attribute to the fact I wasn’t big into music as a kid or their genera. Electronica all the way here haha. With that being said, this to me, sounds like it could have been a bad ass theme to a game, I wouldnt have known.

That bass line is so sick.[/quote]

That bass line is so awesome I think they should open every concert with it b/c it gets me pumped instantly.

  5. By the way, Monday was the 15th anniversary of OK Computer’s original release (21 May 1997 in Japan).

    FIFTEENTH.

    That is all.
