The Uncharted Series, Edited as Feature-Length Movies

So I’m posting this from the hospital, where my wife and I await the impending arrival of our daughter. Kind of crazy.

Fortunately, as this whole waiting process can stretch on for a day or so, I’ve had a bit of Uncharted to help pass the time tonight. And I don’t mean playing Uncharted in video game form — I mean watching it in movie form.

You see, Reddit user morphinapg did something that I’m surprised nobody has done up until now — he edited all three Uncharted games into feature-length films, with each one clocking in at about 2-3 hours. He did this by taking the games’ cut scenes and stringing them together with the minimal amount of gameplay necessary so as not to create plot holes. The result is a pretty entertaining trilogy.

More links after the jump.

While I’d recommend playing the series for yourself, this is a nice way to see what you’ve been missing out on if you never plan on getting a PS3 — or if you just want to skip Uncharted 1 and jump straight into Uncharted 2, which nobody would blame you for.

So, what are your thoughts? Who else loves this idea? Go!

  1. I think this is such an awesome idea, and the Uncharted movies lend themselves perfectly to it. I’ll definitely play some of these while I’m grinding some quests in SWTOR.

  2. ZOMGZ! Congrats Eddy! That’s dedication, still posting to GS at a time like this!
Yeah I saw this on Reddit yesterday.
Ever since I’ve started going to Reddit it has really ruined other sites for me just because I can get every meme or bit of news from it first, but ah well. At least here I come for the great articles and the small knit community.
Anyhoo: I really want to give these a look but since I’ve played them (bar 3, still haven’t had time) I really dont see the point. I may just watch some of Uncharted 2 just to see how well it’s done.

  3. Awesome! This was perfect timing for me last night, helped keep me awake while running some late-night processes for work. Watched about 3/4 of Uncharted, and while it kind of highlights some of the not-so-great bits of animation, it’s still a fun watch. I’m guessing 2 and 3 are even better. I should note that I’ve completed all 3, I just enjoy the opportunity to revisit the stories without finding time I don’t have to replay them.

  4. Congratulations on the beautiful baby girl!

Im giving these a watch as I speak. I cannot tell you how many times playing this game has led me to say “I wish this was a movie”. Sometime I get to frustrated with the mechanics of that game to want to play it, sometimes, I just wish it was a movie. So lets see how #1 goes 😀

So afar, this is pretty good. Love the series 😀 Thanks for sharing Eddy! and Congrats!

  5. Welcome into fatherhood, Eddy! Lots of new adventures await such as sleepless nights and tons of splitting headaches.

These videos actually really add just enough gameplay to the movie to make me want to play them. I’d love to see this applied to other games like Final Fantasy or even Skyrim.

Totally surprised that no one has done something like this before too.
    😮

  6. I don’t really have anything to say about the video, but I just wanted to say Congrats! Exciting times 🙂
