GamerSushi Asks: What Are You Playing?

Diablo III Monk

April isn’t exactly the greatest month in the world for gaming, but we’re right up at the edge of it, and we’ve got to play something, right? As for myself, now that I’ve completed both Mass Effect 3 and Journey (both of which I loved), it’s on to a few other odds and ends.

For one, I spent quite a bit of time playing the Diablo III Beta last night, and I have to say that I’m surprised at just how much fun I had. It’s not that I didn’t expect the game to be great or anything, it’s just always been one of those games that I knew I would be playing, so the specifics of the gameplay never really mattered that much to me. I know that might sound strange, but some games are just such a given you don’t even spend that much time getting excited about them, and instead focus on things releasing ahead or behind. I rolled a monk, and in no time at all I decided that it’ll be my main class when the game drops in May. It’s hard to quantify just how joyous it was to pummel hordes of undead creatures and other ghouls in that good ol’ hack-n-slash style. It’s just been too damn long, you know?

In terms of other things I’m playing, I could rave on and on for an entire post about the beauty of Journey, which so captivated me in my one-sitting-playthrough that it’s already in contention for game of the year. The game affected me in a way that’s hard to put into words, which is weird because I consider myself a writer. In short: just go play the thing.

When I’m not Journey-ing or fighting minions of Diablo, I’ll be catching up on MGS HD, Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 co-op and anything else I can get my hands on – at least until my daughter arrives in just a couple of weeks’ time.

So what are you guys playing? Go!

  1. Nothing but Dota 2 Beta. The Valve love just don’t stop growing. That and hype for Guild Wars 2.

  2. League of Legends, Medieval 2 and Assassin’s Creed Rev. Mainly LoL.
I’m close to level 20 in LoL and I’ve been saving my IP since I started playing (I’m at 16k atm, would be higher, but I bought Garen when I started playing) so I can spend it ALL on teir 3 runes. Ah, the advantage of having experienced friends. Now I’ll catch up to them much quicker! Well, if I ever invest time to learn the meta. ¬_¬
Also, Eddy, good luck with the new arrival!

What is this I don’t even.

  4. GTA: San Andreas on the PC has been consuming my entire life. I tried a bit of III and Vice city, but SA was the one that really stuck with me. The visuals haven’t aged well, but the game plays nicely, and it’s still a lot of fun and deep, albeit a little primitive. The writing is also really good; not just with the plot, but the environment. Citizens say the damndest things, the radio stations and businesses are so snarky and cynical, and the police force is hilarious yet stereotypical. It’s one of the few last-gen games I’ve fallen in love with. Also, the RPG elements have me obsessively grinding at the gym and going on rampages to boost my Respect.

  5. ME3 made me even more backlogged on my Steam Sale games than before -__-
But I beat ME3, been playing a little multiplayer on that and MW3 because my friends have been really active on it lately. Trying to finish up Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Amnesia: The Dark Descent on PC. Then I think Dead Space. Then Darksiders. Then KOTOR.

  6. Still tearing around (i.e. avoiding finishing) Skyrim, playing an hour or two of L.A. Noire and Alan Wake as I find time, and of course CS 1.6.

Also just got Castlevania IV for SNES in the mail, so that’s been interesting to play through for the first time. Lufia II is what’s really killing me though.

  7. @ Mitch,
I just re-read that and realised how non-sensical it is. I typed that at about 2 o’clock last night and didn’t even think to check how bad it was. This would have been handy I guess:
TL:DR I’m enjoying League of Legends.

  8. Just starting my ME3 insanity run, still need to get Skyrim finished off too. I’m looking forward to finally tucking in to some backlog now the releases have slowed down a bit.

Although I’m looking forward to the Dark Souls announcement (hopefully a PC version) and Guild Wars 2 pre-orders this month.

  9. ME3 Full renegade play through and RED DEAD REDEMTION got the GOTY edition and never finished it and I might finally break down and play som MW3 multiplayer and make it so I will never 100% achivement that game. I refuse to buy mappacks I will never use bundled with coop maps I want.

  10. Playing me some Mass Effect 3 on Insanity. Man this game is just as emotional the second time around.

  11. Easter holidays are almost here so Iam going finally rip through the second half of Xenoblade. Need to get back in the moos for ME3 as well. Also been playing To The Moon, which I’m about halfway through and its really intruiging me, I’ll be interested to see where it ends up. Some friend have just bought Terraria, so I’ve co-op-ing with them to get them started
