The Last of Us: Debut Trailer

As we all know, the Spike VGAs hit last night, with a spattering of announcements and trailers, many of which we’ll have the time to get excited about over the next week. However, the post-show buzz seems to hover directly around one game: The Last of Us.

While The Last of Us was teased just a bit over the last few days, nobody had any idea what it was, save for the fact that it was a PS3 exclusive. All that changed last night when gamers were treated to the world premiere trailer, which happens to be all stunning in-engine footage.

I do have to say, I’m a fan. Seems to be a cross between I Am Legend and Enslaved, although we’ll see how the gameplay shakes out eventually. Many props to Naughty Dog for keeping development of this title secret for so long. Yet another reason why I’m glad to be a PS3 owner.

What did you guys think? Go!

  1. Very stoked! Naughty Dog seems to be at the very forefront of bringing video games into a true cinematic medium. I absolutely love Uncharted but I’m even happier that they’re willing to take a break and take a chance with a new IP. Most companies play it safe, like with Call of Duty or Halo. Releasing more or less the same game time after time. Nothing against those games, but as they say, “absence makes the heart grow fonder”. I’m sure it’s safe to assume that The Last of Us will use a lot of familiar elements of Uncharted, especially platforming by looking at the ruined city. But, it will be nice to see how they develop some new characters and especially a genre that they somewhat approached in the Uncharted games but never fully developed. I’m super excited to see more and definitely can’t wait for some gameplay footage.

  2. I’m always the first to say don’t get excited over trailers that show no gameplay but I have to say this looks pretty cool. I hope there are actual survival elements and it’s not just back-pedalling from wave after wave of zombies.

The characters seem good too, the girl is cute and she definitely looks like Ellen Page although she’s apparently being voiced by Ashley Johnson.

  3. I’ve been saying for a while that I hope that after Uncharted 3 Naughty Dog moves on, and I was so happy to see that they had last night. Game looks interesting, consider me excited.

  4. DO WANT. But I wonder what the actual gameplay will be like. Will it all be like those bits in Uncharted 1 with the cursed Spaniards? Actually, those were some stand out moments, so BRING IT!
