Today’s WTF: Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Trailer

Metal Gear Rising disappeared from the scene for a while, dropping only a brief trailer of the game’s protagonist Raiden chopping up dudes and watermelons with motion-gaming like movements. With nothing about the game being released since then people began wondering if we were ever going to see the game again. Well, the new trailer for Rising has leaked just a couple of hours before its appearance at the SPIKE Video Game Awards tonight and all I have to say is “wow”. You can judge what kind of “wow” that is for yourself after you view the trailer.

So yeah, that happened. The Metal Gear games were always a little crazy, but Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (yes, that’s the real title) is down-right bat-shit insane. Revengeance is now being handled by Platinum Games, the studio behind Bayonetta and Vanquish, so you can see where it gets the heritage of over the top action from. What do you guys think of Rising’s new direction?

  1. I never really had an issue with Raiden. Sure, he wasn’t Solid Snake, but I think he was interesting as a character.

When I first heard about Rising and learned it was going to have us controlling the cyborg version of him, basically letting us controlling the cyborg ninja that’s basically a requisite for any Metal Gear game I was excited.

And then I remembered that half the time the ninja was killing people left and right and could cloak and was basically invincible until the plot demanded he be grievously injured.

So if Platinum Games decides to make No More Heroes set in the Metal Gear universe with a soundtrack that awesome, I’m okay with it.

  2. I’m going to mix Jack and Drell’s thoughts – I’ve never had a problem with Raiden, as MGS2 is the only one I’ve played, but this doesn’t look good at all. Well, it looks ok, but it doesn’t look like a Metal Gear Solid game

  3. Apparently this is no longer taking place between Metal Gear 2 and 4 and is instead set sometime in the future, where Raiden has apparently forsaken the family he fought so hard to get back in 4 and has gone back to being a psychopathic cyborg ninja.

So pretty much Platinum Games is taking the script, glancing at it, and saying “Fuck it” as they toss it in the trash can.

But they made Bayonetta…think of how sweet Raiden’s ass is gonna look.

  6. Wow… I really don’t know what to say. I genuinely don’t know if that looks awesome or like another beat-em-up I won’t play. 🙁

And who knows? Maybe his cyborg suit will be composed of his hair.
