Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Spec Ops Survival Trailer is Full of BRAHHH

Man, I really liked Inception (and I enjoy the Mind Hest/everything mash-ups) but that loud, repeating BRAHHH noise is getting a little out of hand. Ranting aside, Infinity Ward just launched a trailer for the Spec Ops Survival mode for Modern Warfare 3, detailing the changes made to the gameplay and all the crazy perks you can purchase with your blood money.

It looks like it plays a little bit like Onslaught from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (surviving against waves on enemies while trying to complete and objective) and Horde 2.0 from Gears of War 3 (buying gadgets and upgrades) but the action is patently Call of Duty.

Is it just me or does this actually look kind of awesome? Spec Ops was my favorite way to play Modern Warfare 2 and this new title is slowly chipping away at my admittedly weak resolve. What say you about this trailer? Does it look good? Has this coerced you into picking up MW3?

  1. There’s definitely more structure to the wave progression and currency management than Nazi Zombies which is interesting, but it’s clear that they really haven’t added much to the game in terms of weapons, perks, etc after MW2. It was nice to see the G36C again, but her beauty shined most brightly in CoD4.
I commend Infinity Ward for injecting some really cool stuff into Spec Ops, since Spec Ops was probably the best part of MW2. I won’t be picking up MW3, but I’m interested in what Treyarch might do with Nazi Zombies if it returns in their next CoD.
Wow, it’s not even a joke to talk about annual CoD’s. Hahaa…

  2. News flash; Inception isn’t the first movie to use BRAHHHH, or trumpets, like the whole freaking internet seems to believe. :/

  3. A few things to mention:
    1. The best part of that trailer? The reveal of the OLD Red dot sights. I hated MW2’s with a passion.
    2. Good to see the G36c back (but as Cossack says, “her beauty shined most brightly in CoD4”). Older model FTW.
    3. Very disappointed to see Juggernauts again. Game ruiner IMO (but some people like them, so ahh well).
    4. Those fold-up pistol things (the name of which escapes me) are long due an appearance in any game outside of Perfect Dark’s Laptop Gun. Solely for the novelty of folding up.
I love these trailers. They’re a gun nut’s wet dream.
I was already set on getting this but I’m feeling better about the future purchase as time goes on.

Well, Star Wars wasn’t the first to use laser swords, but it’s the most well-known. It’s just what happens.

Back on topic, this looks really awesome and is of course, a day 1 purchase for me.

There was music in movies BEFORE Inception?!

    BOOM, incepted!

(That’s the new “oh, snap”, right?)

I have to say, I prefer the holographic sights to the old style of red-dot sights.

I do agree that it’s nice to see the G36 back. Hopefully it makes an appearance in Battlefield 3 as well.

  8. I second that Mitch (the G36c part, games need more H&K guns!).
I also like holographic but some guns, to me, suit either an RDS or a HGS or some just have good enough iron sights as it is. I like the choice between the two sights and to have the same RDS as I own for my airsoft gun is just a nice touch for me. If they have a UMP in there I can finally recreate my airsoft loadout in CoD! : D

  9. I say I like the old ones better than the newer ones, just to make a poll out of it.

This looks hella fun. Zombies turned to not-so-much-zombies-survival-horde-mode, which seems popular in games now a days, but hell there’s a reason for that. Looks cool.

I know all my friends are getting this game, so Ill have to get it too. It looks super fun.

I really didn’t care for Zombies. This seems more like what I want.

I liked Zombies in W@W. In BO, I havent touched it at all, not my thing. Horde mode in GoW…Didnt really do that much either. I wasnt a huge fan of that game though. Then I think of some of the spec op missions from MW2 and throw in elements of both of the aforementioned and I think you have the product they are going for. Its all the same really, the wave survival mode, with elements from each type put in. As I said it seems to be very popular with people now a days. I think its going to be a good way to enjoy the game aside from online multiplayer.

  12. Damn it, I didnt want to have to buy this game. But now I’m gonna have to, because I love love LOVE the combat in MW’s single player. And as someone who enjoyed Horde Mode and L4D’s Survival mode and hates Nazi Zombies and Firefight, this looks effing awesome.

You have a point, however it still grinds my gears. It’s just one of those things…. It wasn’t even the first movie to throw trumpets in your face, either, however it’s managed become a sort of meme on the internet. I actually kind of love Inception’s soundtrack, however the meme kinda brings it down. *Shrug*

  14. Well, it still looks exactly how I expected when I first heard about MW3, which is to say that it looks like Modern Warfare 2, only this time it’s 3.

Most of the good qualities about this seem to be “Hooray, X is returning this time around!” When the best thing you can say about a sequel is that it isn’t throwing away the stuff that you liked in the last game, it doesn’t make sense that you’d be terribly excited to pay more money for this new one. At least, that’s how I see it.

That’s not to say that I won’t buy this… Spec Ops in Modern Warfare 2 is some of the most fun that I’ve had in a multiplayer game and I’d love some more of it; I just won’t be shelling out any more than 20 dollars unless the game legitimately has something unique to justify it as its own game.
