Prioritizing the Remaining Video Games of 2011

batman arkham city

I won’t lie to you, GamerSushians, I’m a little worried about the rest of the year. I’ve been managing to squeeze in every big title so far this year, but I think I’m going to lose track of everything come September. Gears of War 3 is already pre-ordered, as is Battlefield 3. Beyond that, though, things get a little out of control.

With three games that I want to get coming in one day, and a couple more must haves before that, I’m going to have to start making cuts. First on the chopping block is Batman: Arkham City. I really enjoyed the first game, but I don’t think that the second is going to draw me in; I’m just doubtful that Arkham City will give me a different experience than I had with Arkham Asylum. Don’t worry, I’m also passing on Modern Warfare 3 so you can’t give me flack for that.

What about you guys? Which titles are you passing up this year, if any? Why are you giving them up for different games?

  1. It’s a bit easier for me since I could care less about BF or CoD or Gears of War, but the only must-owns for me are Dark Souls (pre-ordered that one a month ago!) and Skyrim (which I guess I won’t be discussing with Glebe). I definitely want Arkham City but may have to pass for a while, and Uncharted 3 is only a “if I get around to it” game.

I think when it comes down to it, I’d rather spring for the game I’ll play for maybe 100 hours or more. I’m not knocking 8 hour games, I just have to put priorities somewhere.

  2. Must own:
    – Battlefield 3
    – Skyrim

    Maybe:
    – Uncharted 3
    – Team Ico collection

    Cut off from the list:
    – Arkham City
    – Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    – Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

  3. I’m poor, and I’m still gonna shell out dollars for the inbound games. They look gnarly.

    1. Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution
    2. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
    3. Mass Effect 3
    4. Battlefield 3
    5. Hawken, if that comes out soon…

A lot of threes, AMIRITE! Geez, I hate when folks say that. Yeah, that’s what happens when you continue series!

  4. The only game I’m guaranteed to be getting is Skyrim. Arkham City and Assassins Creed: Revelations will depend on when I get around to playing previous installments, and what I think of them. Modern Warfare 3 will get ignored, and I was of a similar opinion on Battlefield 3, but I have to say Mitch, your enthusiasm is starting to rub off on me a bit.

  5. To quote Rorschach from Watchmen: “Never compromise, not even in the face of armaggeddon”.

  6. @ Drell Assassin: Best response ever.
But I’m not Rorschach, so I’ll have to make do with compromise.
I’ve kinda got a list of the most important releases of this year’s autumn/winter release schedule. In no particular order:

    1. Arkham City
    2. Battlefield 3
    3. Uncharted 3
    4. Skyrim
    5. AC:R

Deus Ex and Mass Effect are purchases for next year and I will, no doubt, get MW3 eventually.
I’m sure I’ve skipped at least 3 that I plan on getting somehow…

  7. The only one that I’ll definately get is Arkham City. Everything that I see about it looks like it’ll be bigger and better than the first game in every way. Then, possibly Rage as I’ve always been a huge id fanboy. After that, depending on if people report huge ammounts of bugs in the initial release of Skyrim won’t just decide if I buy it or not, but if I buy anything developed by Bethesda ever again. Every game that I’ve ever bought by them has repeatedly kicked me in the teeth with bugs and none of them were ever sufficiently patched. I can’t keep getting hooked on a great game only for every item I have in the game to randomly disappear, or for a quest specific NPC to glitch out, or for my saves to corrupt, or any of that.

I really have absolutely nothing else that I’m particularly looking forward to.

  8. I meant Skyrim was #1 in my list, not that i was passing it up. The games im pretty much for sure passing are the shooters. I already have too many.

  9. This is almost impossible. I’ll do my top 6 b/c 6…, well, you know.

    1. Uncharted 3
    2. Skyrim
    3. Modern Warfare 3
    4. Saint’s Row 3
    5. Gears of War 3
    6. Dark Souls

  10. I have three that I am prioritizing on this fall:
    1. Skyrim (of course)
    2. Battlefield 3 (I’ll pass on MW3)
    3. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (but this one can wait a bit longer)

  11. Deus Ex 3 (pre-order soon)
    Battlefield 3 (pre-order after that)
Skyrim is a maybe after that.

Everything else is in the shadows of my love for the first 2.

  12. If I could have only one, Skyrim.

Ill be passing up a ton Im sure. The must gets are Skyrim, BF3, MW3.

I want, but may have to pass on Gears 3, Saints Row, Bioshock Infinite, and Ghost Recon FS.

Hawken was mentioned in there. If it came out this year, I will have to get it. No matter what.

Oh…then I take it back. We can discuss it.

Thank you for putting Dark Souls up there. This thread has an unfortunate lack of mentioning it.
