What Are You Playing: Almost Summer Edition

The Witcher 2

Hello, GamerSushi faithful, did you miss me? I know that you guys probably didn’t even notice I was gone for a couple of days, but I was off in Vancouver watching a hockey game (pause for Canada jokes). Unfortunately, this little getaway clashed with the release of L.A. Noire, and I only got to try that out last night. While I’m finding the controls a little too clunky for my liking, the interrogations are super awesome and the facial animations continue to astound me.

Besides L.A. Noire, we’ve also seen the release of the Witcher 2 on PC, and I’ve been hearing rave reviews about it both here and other places. It’s definitely on my list of “must haves”, so I’ll hopefully be able to pick that up soon. Based on the screenshot I used for this article, the game should be titillating in all the right ways.

So what are you guys playing? I know we already have a whole thing about L.A. Noire, but if you’ve got any Witcher 2 thoughts, this is the place to put them. Hit me up with those comments, son!

  1. L.A. Noir and Black Ops

That game (witcher 2) looks like it should have a name that more fits with breasts. Good lord. How can she hunt witches with those babies.

  2. Right no? Black Ops. I still don’t understand why I like it so much. I’m also playing inFamous in anticipation of the sequel. I also intend to play Killzone 3 online again as I haven’t played it since before the PSN outage. All I really need are a few semi-consistent teammates.

  3. Been Demon’s Souls-ing it again since PSN came back up. I also picked up Deus Ex on the PC based on Julez’s raving about it. I’m still at the beginning, though, so I don’t have much of an opinion yet.

I’m really disappointed about Witcher 2. Not because I don’t like it, but because I’m not sure my PC will play it, plus I need to watch my finances at this point (the downsides of saving for a wedding). But I really, really want to play that game. Was thinking about picking up the first one, since that one was positively reviewed as well, though not as positively.

  4. The Witcher 2 is amazing, my GOTY so far. I love the moral ambiguity and harsh combat system; also its still beautiful on low or med graphics.

  5. Mostly LA Noire, although I completely bungled a case tonight, which was a bit frustrating. I think I missed something crucial early on and derailed my investigation without realizing it.

Also, I saw that the first Witcher was $5 on GOG.com, so I picked it up. I’ve heard it’s great if a bit flawed, and I was curious about it after the new one started getting rave reviews. Figure it’s worth a shot at that price.

  6. I’d like to hear more about the Witcher 2 combat system…

Its major flaw far outweighs any of its good, at least for me, and that’s the combat system. It is easily one of the WORST combat systems I’ve ever had to deal with in a video game because it is so repetitive. Seriously, the entire combat system is: click…click……click. Time three clicks. Level up your sword technique, and you get to click FOUR times. Also, you get to use a few spells. Wooo.

So please, let me know if the Withcer 2 combat system is better, I’d like to know a little more detail about it. Glad I got the Witcher for $5.

The $5 version of the Witcher is the original game. They have since released an “Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut” which, I’ve read, vastly improves the combat system by leaps and bounds. This version goes for $20 on Steam. More money, yes, but supposedly a much more enjoyable experience.

This should also mean that they learned their lesson from the first game and the Witcher 2’s combat system is not as flawed.

  8. The Witcher 2!! I loved the tone and story of the first, and the developers when above and beyond for TW2. The combat is way better, the art style/graphics are superb, and the morality is not black and white but rather a very dark shade of grey. There is almost no “good” answer, everyone is in TW2 is in it for their own gain. Like I said before this is the sequel Dragon Age 2 should have been.

Actually the $5 version on GOG.com is the Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut. Have no fear about the combat in TW2, it is fluid and fun but very hard. If you do not plan well before you get into a fight with multiple enemies you will get your ass handed to you, it almost reminds me of Demon’s Souls.

  9. On Steam I got the Enhanced Edition when it was on sale… The combat is atrocious on that I’d hate to see what it was before…

But everyone seems to agree that The Witcher 2 is amazing, so I might force myself to beat 1 eventually.
