What Should the Setting of Assassin’s Creed 3 Be?

assassins creed 3 settings

Now that we know all about Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and its place in the series as the conclusion of Ezio’s story, people are starting to wonder what the future settings of Assassin’s Creed will be. Judging by your comments on the article, we’re all a little sick of the Renaissance (and the annualization of the titles) so which time period should the games visit next?

This has been investigated a bit over at IGN, who can turn out an interesting feature when they want to. They suggest four unique settings that haven’t really been explored in the gaming space outside of a few recent titles. While a Wild West Assassin’s Creed would end up being unfavorably compared to Red Dead Redemption, a post-World War 2 (that conflict being a period the developers wanted to avoid) game focused on the hunting down of Nazi war criminals who escaped prosecution would fit rather well into the existing fictional framework as well as provide players with a relatively fresh setting to discover.

One of the most appealing things about Assassin’s Creed has always been, at least for me, the dedicated recreation of parts of our history not usually explored in video games. While I’m practically gagging for an AC game set in feudal Japan, a post-WW2 or Industrial London game would be tip top as well. What do you guys think will be the setting of the next Assassin’s Creed? Will it be another slice of the past, or will we finally get to see Desmond steal the spotlight? What would make for interesting multiplayer arenas? Go!

  1. I think they really need to leave Europe for 3. Id love to go to London but down the road. Japan seems like itd be fun, an obvious choice but welcome… Assassin Ninjas and Templar Samurai, who wouldnt love that. I like the idea of a post WW2 setting mainly because they need to start working on some kinda gun-play mechanic. I really dont want it to come out of nowhere when we play as Desmond.

If I had my way, Assassins Creed 3 would open with your character hidden up in an attic looking down on the Declaration of Independence being signed.

  2. Some interesting ideas for settings, but they’re too gun oriented which would (probably) throw AC’s gameplay off. BUT, a two year minimum dev cycle should give them ample time to solve any problems. Hear that Ubisoft? TWO years! Got that?

  3. Easy… The best next setting should be Warhammer 40k. lol
Imagine just jumpin across roof tops in your holy battle armour, tearing up the evil inquisition.
Or star wars….lets face it…your guns mean nothing when your deflecting it with a lightsaber.

  4. no i think they have to stay in history to keep the game in close combat that’s what assasins creed is al about. in the 17th century the most ppl had blades and guns. that looks cool to me. I studied dutch history on my school and maybe the theme can be in holland with the dutch trading company or something. the dutch where very powefull on the sea in the 17th century, and (the upcoming assassin) might fel in to this with a new storieline.

  5. i think there are a lot of ways that the next one could go… for instance we could see desmond take the title and be the main character, however i doubt that will happen yet. or we may find ourselves in a world we didnt know existed going farther back to the first people civilization that we are given a glimpse of at the end of revelations. who knows? i do think that a neat next step would be to bring us closer to the present like maybe to a colonial america or take us out west… im just not sure how much more the story of Desmond Miles can bring us. i love this series and want to see it continue but i really hope the story continues to get better and better and not do what most games do which is get shittier and shittier. so obisoft please give me a kick ass game to play for hours and hours maybe one with more than just 18 hours of gameplay. thanks 🙂 Candy
