GamerSushi Asks: Gaming Marathons?

Dragon Age 2

Every now and then as gamers we get to bunker down and tackle a game for as long as we want. This doesn’t happen very often due to a number a life circumstances, but sometimes the stars align and clear the way for a gaming marathon session like no other. Needless to say, these always make for awesome days, and if you’re lucky enough, awesome binge gaming weekends.

Yesterday, a few members of the GamerSushi crew got to do just that. For instance, Jeff, finally over-burdened by our constant podcast harassment, took it upon himself to play Mass Effect 2 for about 10 hours. He knocked out the second half of the game and even DLC, including Overlord and Lair of the Shadow Broker. I know that Anthony has also spent some time plowing through Demon’s Souls. As for me, I think I’ve played Dragon Age 2 for about 23 hours this week, including about 9 yesterday in one awesome gaming session.

So what about you guys? When’s the last time you’ve gotten to jump into a marathon gaming session? What game or games did you play? Go!

  1. I actually beat Dragon Age 2 for the second time, so, you know, thanks for the mention in the post, Eddy. (h8)

Dragon Age 2 doesn’t really give itself to repeated replays, unfortunately. Sure, I got a lot of the achievements I missed last time (including nailing Isabela and Merrill hiyoooo)but it was mostly the same experience as I had on my first playthrough.

  2. I probably spent about 4 or 5 hours yesterday playing Bulletstorm. Holy shit is that game fun and refreshing. I’m just about to jump back into it for a good Sunday Session! After that, I’m considering grabbing Homefront.

  3. I played Demon’s Souls nonstop from about 12 until 6 PM…wow. There were moments of despair, of frustration and the occasional suicidal thought…but it was all worth it in the end when I defeated the False King and cleared the Boletarian Palace.

I’m sure that seems like Greek to most of you, but trust me, it was a blast…and I think I hear it calling again…

  4. I think my top 3 entries for a marathon would be (all of them were accomplished with my best friend, on his PS3):
    1) About 34 hours of Resistance 2 offline coop missions non-stop
    2) COMPLETE Borderlands 2nd playthrough with all the DLCs (man, that was hardcore)
    3) Full playthrough of Untold Legends on the PS3 on Legendary difficulty (about 19 hours, cause we kept dying over and over at some ridiculous bosses)

  5. Played through Reach on Legendary over about 2 and 1/2 days with brief intermittent breaks into PC gaming or television(during particularly rageworthy sequences) while borrowing Reach over winter break from a friend.

  6. I actually dont do much marathon gaming in recent years. I dont think its from the limitations such as school or work, but more that I just dont want to marathon games that much. The last thing I may have ‘marathoned’ were the Uncharted series games which I promptly beat as fast as I could. But even then I broke it up into maybe 3 evenings of playing. Most recently I plowed through almost all of pokemon snap in a single night, I was setback when i forgot to save and took a break. Marathoning is much harder for me these days.

  7. My last one was playing through the entire Halo Reach campaign in one night with my sister’s boyfriend. It was actually the first time I’d played any Halo campaign and I have to say I was pretty impressed. I’ve played a fair bit of multiplayer at LAN days but now I kinda want to play through the other games’ campaigns as well.
