The GamerSushi Show, Ep 13: VGA Special

VGA 2010Wow. So the VGA’s happened last night, and anybody that’s remotely interested in gaming news has probably heard by now – 2011 is going to be insane. With Portal 2, Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3, Elder Scrolls V, Forza 4, Resistance 3, Killzone 3, Dragon Age 2, Twisted Metal, Last Guardian and Gears of War 3… it’s looking like many of us are going to go broke just trying to keep up with everything.

As I’ve said previously, I’m not exactly a fan of televised video game anything, because it seems that the people producing the material have no idea what really appeals to gamers. While the VGAs had some gimmicky and annoying bits about them last night, they were certainly better than years before, primarily because a lot of the content skewed towards gaming more than it has in the past.

Anyway, before all of this insanity happened, the GamerSushi dudes got together to record a podcast and make some predictions. We thought it’d be cool to post just after, so you can fact check us against everything that happened. Here’s the list of official VGA 2010 winners if you’re interested. Beyond the VGA’s, we play another one of Nick’s awesome games and even talk about the reveals of Uncharted 3 and Mass Effect 3.

Hopefully you guys enjoy our goofy rantings. Once again, please go rate this cast on iTunes and subscribe with the handy links to the right. Enjoy!

  1. I’m in Canada (Manitoba), we get Spike, which does show the VGA’s (I did not watch), but I’ve never seen E3 coverage on there… I had G4 for a while aswell (which I absolutely loved) and wish I still had it.

    Uncharted 3 > Portal 2?!? It’s a sad day.

New Vegas was fantastic. I didn’t want to go back and play FO3 right away like I did with NV. Even though I’m maxed out in level, I’m still playing Vegas, exploring, and trying other quests I missed.

I’m liking the slimmer format, great job again.

  2. What about Super Mario Galaxy 2 not being nominated for game of the year? It was one of the most critically acclaimed game for the whole year. Metacritic has it at 97/100. Does it get ignored just because its on the Wii?

And in reference to your comments about Red Dead sweeping – I know Mass Effect 2 is to me what RE5 is to you guys, but how is it that ME2 wins best Xbox 360 game, best RPG and best studio and Red Dead doesn’t win best PS3 game, doesn’t win best Action/Adventure, doesn’t win best studio but still gets Game of the Year? I know Red Dead is a great game, but how can the only award you win be Game of the Year and nothing else?

  3. Great podcast guys enjoyed your discussions throughout the show, and yes the crashing airplane level would kick major ass.

On a side note has it become Nicks job to come up with a game each week or what?.

Congrats on two in a row keep up the good work.

  4. My PC is “blocked” with video rendering for the next hour (damn you 4 year old CPU), and here is the new gamersushi podcast which runs 52mins. I love you guys <3

  5. Great podcast guys. Usually I don’t care about the length of a podcast, short or long, but I think the shorter version you guys are doing is working much better. You also seem to be figuring out the delay between when some people talk, because this episode seemed to have the least amount of people talking over each other in a jumbled mess than the others.

  6. Thanks for all the great comments, guys! Really glad you’re liking the new format – we are too.

And seriously, like Nero said, who else wants that crashing airplane level?
