BioShock Infinite Gameplay Video is on Cloud Nine

BioShock Infinite (or Skyoshock, if you’re feeling sassy) was announced in late July amid much fervor and rumors. Is this a sequel to BioShock? What’s going on in the airborne city of Columbia? While we did get a glimpse at some of the fantastic looking screens, we haven’t really seen anything concrete on the game up until now. This video, shown during the behind-closed-doors press release event, goes over the sort of shenanigans we can expect to see in Irrational Game’s next foray into the BioShock universe.

One thing that strikes me about the video is how great Irrational is at world building. Much like Rapture before it, Columbia is at the tail end of its life, and the entire city is in shambles. The video opens kind of slowly, but it ramps pretty quickly after that. The game is currently set for release in 2012, so we’ve got a while to go. What do you guys think of the gameplay? Excited for Infinite?

  1. Oh my god. Everything I loved about Bioshock is back. I absolutely cannot wait for this, I’m ready for yet another great trip through one of Irrational’s lavishly detailed worlds. Also, it’s nice to see the main character talks, and actually has companions.

  2. I really love how they nailed the look of Columbia. It’s a bright sky, and yet the city is filled with anarchy (and racism, which was really shocking but adds to the Ubermensch atmosphere of Bioshock), so the juxtaposition is very intriguing. Though the movement seems clunky and Elizabeth could have been animated better, Skyoshock looks coolio.

  3. @ julez and Cossack, yes it may look a little clunky…I mean its only two whole years before it comes out!!!

I love the atmosphere that Irrational Games creates very haunting yet beautiful, the facial animations also look way better than they did in Bioshock. I cannot wait for this!

  4. And the whole technology behind the engine running the game is so cool too. The fact that the building will actually be suspended in air in the game world with factors like wind! So cool

  5. After Bioshock 2 I am pretty skeptical of anything with Bioshock in its title, especially if it is called Bioshock yet is in the sky.

Looks ok I guess, doesn’t have the same atmosphere that I loved in the Original Bioshock.

  6. What clunkiness? I actually thought it looked a tad too pre rendered to be real gameplay TBH. Regardless me <3 so gimme more Bioshock! After Bioshock 2 I know the combat mechanics are improving so I'm damn excited for this!

That’s a different studio than Bioshock 1 and this.

If it did, people would be saying what they said about Bioshock 2.
