GamerSushi Asks: Where Do You Get Your News, Reviews and Previews?

As much as we might like to imagine it, we here at GamerSushi can’t always supply you guys with reviews of all the latest games or previews of anything that we didn’t download as a demo. And most of our news is culled from other sites, though carefully chosen so you get only the coolest stuff here.

And we aren’t naive enough to think that you don’t visit other sites. It’s okay, we see other people, too. We have a nice open relationship and I think it’s working out for everyone involved. And unlike the ones in college, this sort of open relationship is less likely to cause emotional trauma (Although, watch out for IGN’s Insane-O Ads; those things could slow down Skynet).

So that leaves the question: where do you get your gaming news? What sites or magazines do you trust the most for reviews and previews? Are there any that you refuse to visit, perhaps due to a past experience? Go!

  1. Well I get plenty of news here to satisfy my basic gaming needs but I also visit 1UP, Kotaku and G4TV.com. I visit IGN sometimes for reviews of games if I need some more info to finalise a purchasing decision. I rarely read magazines nowadays (with all of those sources I don’t really need to anyway) but I pick up Edge on the odd occasion. I never agree with their reviews however, so it’s for everything else that they offer.
I nearly forgot to mention podcasts! ‘In this thread’, ‘Feedback’, ‘Sesslar’s Soapbox’ and, of course, ‘The GS Show’!

  2. I go to quite a few, I’ll go to Gametrailers, IGN, Gameinformer, and here, and I subscribe to the Gameinformer and OXM magazines. Gameinformer by far has the most trust able reviews and interesting articles in my opinion, and I think IGN is pretty good about it too.

  3. I go to Gamespot, 1Up, and Gametrailers, which I just use for some Screwattack videos and some of their exclusive trailers. Also, I watch Hard News on Screwattack sometimes, because it is pretty ridiculous. Mostly though, I get all my news from 1Up.

I also listen to quite a few gaming podcasts.

  4. I tend to only regularly visit Kotaku who are relatively even handed and fair.

I must admit I’ve already read most of the news before I even see it here but that’s not really why I browse this website.

  5. I watch EP Daily / Reviews On The Run up here in Canada cause it’s on every day around when I’m home.

but in terms of Internetz you guys are the only site I visit. I like it here.

  6. Personally mine goes in this order:
    PC Gamer.com, Podcast, and magazine
    IGN
    Gamespot
Gamer Sushi (sorry you come in last)

  7. When I was young I would get my news from Nintendo Power, but when I discovered the power of the internet I discovered there to be a lot more news on more games much sooner than nintendo power. So now I mainly go to shacknews and kotaku.

  8. GamerSushi is more about the discussion of games in a cool community, rather than up-to-the-minute news. We try to stay on top of it, but for all of us this is a hobby, and unfortunately not our jobs.

Still, we appreciate you guys coming here and telling us your opinions! This is a large part of why I enjoy writing for GamerSushi so much.

    ^ this.

  10. But see that’s what I really like about you guys. If I want up tithe minute news I can go somewhere else but if I want someones opinion on something cool (who actually knows what they’re talking about) I can just come here 🙂

  11. Do add to my above comment I wanted to say I get 95% of my gaming news on sites besides this one, however I come to this one to talk about those interesting articles I see on other web sites with mature people who genuinely care and are interested in the industry and stuff related to it, instead of comments getting washed away in a sea of fanboy flame wars.

  12. Most of the time I’ll be looking at Kotaku or here for gaming news. But when you put up an interesting article from elsewhere I’ll have a look at it and see what else grabs my eye on that site. And I’ll definitely agree with what everyone else has said, for an honest open discussion, there’s nowhere like Gamersushi. It’s great to be able to post a comment without being flamed/trolled/labelled as a fanboy by the rest of the community. Long live the Gamersushi community 🙂

  13. Kotaku for 95%, with Adventure Gamers filling in the adventure-centric news gap. For reviews, Kotaku’s pieces and frankenreviews usually do the trick, but I’ll occasionally visit gamerankings. I’ll definitely echo the sentiment about commenting here – it’s great to be able to comment without being instantly buried under a pile of more frequent posters.

  14. Normally I check out ScrewAttack for most of my gaming news but for somethings they might not cover I’ll head to IGN. As for Podcasts I usually listen to these in order from my favorites

    Sidescrollers (screwattack)
    The GS Show
    CAGCAST
