I know that we have quite a few Deus Ex fans on this site, so this post is especially you for you. If you were unaware, a trailer for the newest entry into the franchise (and prequel to the series), Deus Ex Human Revolution, just hit the good ol’ webz today, and holy cow if it isn’t pretty awesome.
I don’t mean to hype this trailer up too much, but I’m seriously damn impressed by it. I don’t know a thing about Deus Ex, its world, the main character, or how any of the game plays, but I immediately want to go find out everything I can about it right now.
On the real. You need to watch it.
Does anyone else wish this was a movie after watching it? Because I certainly did.
I’m just about to watch it myself. I loved the first game, but never played the second, because I didn’t hear great things about it.
Glad to see you posted this. I watched it earlier today and can’t remember ever being this excited by a game trailer that didn’t show any in-game footage. My heart sank a little bit when I read a story from earlier in the year that said Eidos Montreal won’t be showing a playable build of Human Revolution at E3. Boo!
Eddy, you should be able to snag a ps2 copy of Deus Ex for under five bucks at the local Gamestop or on ebay. It hasn’t aged especially well as far as the graphics and game engine go (much like most 3d games from that era), but the character customization options and the ability to viably play the game in a number of ways is still pretty impressive.
Deus Ex: Invisible War…not so much. It’s definitely an inferior game compared to the original, but it still has it’s merits. I actually played Invisible War first, so a lot of the things they eliminated from the first game were lost on me until I played it a few years later. It’s kind of like the differences between Mass Effect 1 & 2 in that Invisible War greatly simplified a lot of the mechanics from Deus Ex 1, although the changes clearly weren’t as successful as those in Mass Effect 2. Invisible War isn’t a bad game, though. Taken on it’s own merits, it was still better than a lot of console shooters at the time (I played it on xbox, not pc).
Wish this was a movie after watching it? That’s exactly how I felt.
I have never heard of this series, but the trailer has got me stoked! There is so much epic crammed into this trailer and it look like I’m going to have to buy this one.
Yeah the original two games are available on Steam right now for 10 bucks apiece. Definitely tempted.
In that case, I’d go the Steam route. They’re probably a better experience on PC anyway. I would have recommended that originally, but I wasn’t sure how available they are (legally) on PC.
The first game is amazing, I still have my PS2 copy.
Don’t bother with the second.

I never played the other Dues Ex games, but I get the jist of story and all that, and I know it’s a great game. I might just get Dues Ex 1 on Steam. I WANT to be psyched for this game, because it looks beautiful and gripping.
The end of the trailer was so unnecessary. And funny.
Deus Ex is one series that would be a great movie and wouldn’t take as much effort as some gaming movies. It’s been a while since there was a good movie set in the future (not counting District 9 because of the Aliens).
From reading more about this game, it seems like the developers are fans of Splinter Cell and GoW, however, I predict that the enjoyment of third-person shooting sections/cover sections in a first-person shooter will be minimal for me.
I think it’s more accurate to say that the developers of Splinter Cell were fans of the original Deus Ex. You could play Deus Ex completely as a stealth game and it would still be better than almost any other stealth based game that’s come out since then.
As far as God of War influence, the trailer certainly shows a lot of intense hand to hand combat, but Deus Ex has always been more about gunplay. Maybe this will finally be the 1st person game that builds on the hand to hand combat mechanics of the Riddick games. The tech is certainly there to make it happen, but there really hasn’t been an fps since Escape From Butcher Bay that had enjoyable hand to hand fighting.
I’ve been pimping the first game on here for a long time. If this game lives up to the first, you’ll be hearing from me. Forget about the 2nd game, really.
I can’t wait, I just can’t wait. Deus Ex is on par with Half-Life for me. Waiting for 3 was like waiting for HL2, no joke.
I just hope it’s based in stealth and guns, and not very heavy in the transforming Protoype-esque shapeshifting melee shit.
