Pop-Fiction Looks at Link to the Past Secrets

I have always been a huge fan of some of the retro looks that GameTrailers does in its numerous original videos. They do a really good job of taking a unique glimpse into some old favorites, and re-capping some lesser known facts about the games we’ve always known and loved.

Enter Pop-Fiction, their brand new gaming series where they test out gaming’s unsolved mysteries, one at a time. Think of it as a Mythbusters for old school games. Their first episode takes a look at the fabled Chris Houlihan room in Link to the Past. Very entertaining video, for sure.

So what are some of your favorite urban legends in video gaming? I think one of my favorite would have to be the Ermac character in Mortal Kombat.

  1. In MGS1, getting into the control room where Liquid and Ocelot are. I know it’s not possible, but it’d be so cool if it were…

  2. This is awesome!

I remember all the rumors about Pokemon Blue and Red, like swimming around the SS Anne and getting to an Island with some secret pokemon? Never knew if it worked since I was 8 and didn’t have internet.

Plus, the “Missing No.” that would give you a crazy amount of whatever you had in your 6 spot of your items.

    Cool, weird stuff.

  3. Amazing!

I would have to say my most favourite would be the amazing user-created maps in Jedi Outcast.
Of course this probably doesn’t count as they were user made but an inspired mapper could leave you spending hours unlocking the hundreds of hidden doors and switches to secret places
And normally that would be done on a server with dozens of people bragging they found one room or another (:

  4. Man, this is a cool idea! I love little easter eggs and stuff, and re-watching movies looking for hidden stuff is a favorite past-time of mine.

A crazy myth from my youth was that Charizard was a playable character in the original Smash Bros. This was central to my elementary school, but it kept us occupied for weeks trying the craziest things.

Yeah, the missingno rumor was true. And as for the island, it didn’t have secret pokemon on it, but it was a secret island. There was a secret island like something you’re talking about in Gold and Silver.
