Call of Duty: Black Ops is So Secret, the Trailer Says Nothing

I try not to be too snarky and leave most of the editorial out of news posts on this site when I can, but sometimes the hype machine around videogames drives me to new lengths I never thought possible before.

Take this Call of Duty: Black Ops trailer, for instance, which has been hyped all week long and is currently taking over the front page of Gametrailers. It pretty much tells you nothing. While I’m generally not a fan of teaser trailers for video games (why do I care about a game trailer with no gameplay), this one is even worse than most. I get it. Fast cuts means excitement. But it’s nice to see what’s going on every now and then.

I dunno, am I being an old fart about this? Slow down your videos, you crazy kids!

Bee tee dub, this game is by Treyarch. I know that’s going to make people go loopy in the comments, so have fun.

  1. Meh, I’m willing to give it a chance but I’ll probably see what my friends think of it first before I buy it.

  2. Ah, no thanks. I’m kind of done with CoD.

We’ve been inundated with one of these things every year for a while, and they’re mostly the same thing. Jingoism doesn’t really fly with me anymore.

  3. Yeah, I don’t know about this one.
As cool as it might seem, it just seems a bit…odd.
Not to mention, I wasn’t really have with World at War, though Nazi Zombies is still alive for me today.
But like Mitch said, it’ll probably just be the same thing as the last two games to come out.
Just a rebranded Modern Warfare 2 with a new setting and some new characters… very similar to what nVidia does with it’s Graphics Cards!

  4. Lame trailer FTB.

I ended up liking World At War a lot more than I thought I would, so I will play this, but I need more info than this. I was more excited just finding out the name than this non-news.

  5. I didn’t like the trailer. It WAS too fast so Eddy, you aren’t an old fart : ) It looks like it not (entirely) set in Vietnam. Oh well, I was hoping for it to be a ‘nam game since they got trees in the pacific pretty much sussed.

  6. Yeah, I agree with you, Eddy. I didn’t see shit in this Teaser. I didn’t even get to enjoy the explosions. What the fuck, this is just whoreshit.
I watched a slowed-down analysis and that…still didn’t tell me anything. So this teaser is just a waste of time. I think the analysis was by Gametrailers, so check it out there.

I’m waiting for some concrete gameplay. Right now, it looks like CoD:Black Ops is going to be trying to top MW2’s craziness, and if it’s just a big explosion fest, I’m not buying this shit. I’m renting it, having a fun weekend or full week, and that’s it. I’ll play the Campaign, have some fun in Zombies, and maybe dabble in Online, and then that’s all. I’m sure it’ll be a good enough experience so I don’t have to waste $60 on something I’m just going to get pissed at every day. I hope CoD:Black Ops had enough time to be a sufficiently tested and revised so we’re not getting a buggy, rushed product like MW2 was in some ways, most in the multiplayer bugs.

So for now, I’m waiting for a trailer with more info before caring too much. It looks crazy right now. Ugh. Remember when Call of Duty prided itself on being realistic? And then Activision just whipped that bitch out the window. Friggin morons.

  7. Just like you shouldn’t get too excited at this non-informative trailer, you also shouldn’t get too discouraged or angry

  8. Of course it’s going to make it hard to see, it’s TEASING you.

I’m also appalled to see that people are pissed at this teaser and not something like BioShock 2’s teaser way back then, which ACTUALLY showed absolutely nothing.

    1. I’m equally appalled at all silly video game teasers. I don’t even recall the Bioshock 2 teaser all that much. I think I posted about it at one point simply because every site was blowing up about it. This one just happened to be big news, so we’re commenting on it. Next time I’ll run our stuff by you Sinister Minister. That cool? 🙂

Bioshock 2’s teaser was awesome b/c it was ANNOUNCING the sequel, which we did not know for sure existed until it showed up at the end of the teaser.

This teaser was announced days in advance, the website was already up and it was hyped endlessly and then…this?

It’s not exactly apples to apples.
