Halo Multiplayer Trailer Reaches for the Sky With Jetpacks

It’s a real shame that May 3rd is so far away, because watching this multiplayer trailer for Halo: Reach makes me pine for some Halo-flavored action. Actually, that’s not the best way to phrase it because Reach takes what the previous Halos did then mashes it up with Red Faction: Guerrilla (jetpacks) and Call of Duty (loadouts). The prior Halos were good times in multiplayer, but this trailer makes it look like Bungie took their game, as one aging rockstar said, “to eleven.” Have a peek:

Is that some hot stuff or what? Anyone else starting to feel the return of the dreaded but oh-so-sweet Halo hype? This is almost enough for me to forgive the franchise for Legends. What do you guys think about the trailer?

  1. All that flying around and madness makes it look more like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament with Halo skins. Looks like a lot of fun!

  2. Eddy, I think that jet-packs are added as a gimmick to ‘enhance’ gameplay and to give the illusion of total freedom. This isn’t always a bad thing. The jet-packs in Warhawk are tonnes of fun.
    On to the trailer…
As a gun nut I always had a few problems with Halo’s guns, but the overhaul in the graphics department really shows here. I bet they have magazines that are proportional to the ammo amount now (Halo 1’s MA5B 60 7.62s? No way, not even in the future) and they look convincingly powerful (RECOIL!) and realy, better designed (in terms of aesthetics) added to that, melee takedowns are fantastic looking and, really, I’m contemplating getting a 360.

  3. HOT SHIT MAN! OH FACK!

Seriously, I’m psyched for Reach. The only thing I’m a bit unsure about is the differences between Spartans and Elites. It looks like Bungie actually made the Elites the foot taller that they are. Who knows, maybe the Bungies found a way to not break the game. Other than that, the new weapons & equipment, maps, gametypes, campaign, and new round of Halo Hype has got me needing a new pair of pants!

They made the Spartans shorter. Master Chief was taller than most.

    ;)
Haha, I heard that tidbit on the 4 Guys 1up podcast, when they were talking to two guys from Bungie.

    I’m awesome.

  6. Hopefully jetpacks is an option that can be turned on and off. For the most part it seems to be just more halo, just with the original pistol, taking it to level bajillion

  7. This is the last Halo game, right? so this would be the last chance to play as them.
The jetpacks don’t really seem necessary, and wouldn’t they hurt the Halo lore? I’m not that into Halo so I don’t know. I thought they looked a bit like the jumppacks for darktroopers in battlefront, at least.

  8. Hrm…I like the Halo series but I don’t like myself to get too hyped about the games coming out, but this…this is just too hard NOT to be hyped. It hurts trying to not be hyped.

  9.
BTW:

Are we ever going to get to play as the Covenant?
You could play as the Arbiter in Halo 2. Does that count?
