OK, another gaming confession here: I’ve never played a God of War game. Honestly, I’ve just never seen the appeal, but I have heard that the series is supposed to be pretty good. The next game in the franchise is set to hit in about a month, and the world premier of the associated trailer just dropped on GTTV. Check it out:
One thing that this trailer really accentuates is the massive scale that Santa Monica Studios is trying to achieve. I mean, you fight a giant horse-spider on top of a living mountain. It definitely looks really good, but I get the sense that the marketing team is trying to over-emphasize the God of War series’ reputation for being over the top and brutal. What do you guys think? Are you going to be buying, renting, or passing altogether?
This is the best action series out there and I am so excited.
People always complain about Sony not supporting their games with marketing (I tend to agree) so I don’t think you can emphasize the drawing points to this game enough.
It draws a distinct line between it and lame ass Bayonetta.
Totally gonna buy it! This game made me buy the God of War collection (1 and 2) just so I could play this.

HAHAHA, same thing I said about the ME2 trailer.. With a medium that has UNLIMITED potential in terms of direction and production, can’t they atleast afford some good writers / voice acting for trailers? My GOD, (no pun intended) seems like all the ‘uberhyped’ games have the worst trailers. Meanwhile, Alan Wake has me begging for a PC port.

“Uberhyped” is the whole point. This genre is all about being over the top.
At least the God of War series still has some semblance of stylistic integrity. It’s not like the host of recent derivative action games that are driven by gimmicks: Darksiders (GOW meets Zelda, with ‘kewl’ demons), Bayonetta (Devil May Cry meets softcore anime porn), or Dante’s Inferno (GOW meets a Cliffs Notes version of The Divine Comedy).
I watched Anthony tear through the demo of this the other day and there were at least four or five “Oh my God, did you see that?!?” moments during that time. Yes, it’s an action game. No, it isn’t going to engage you intellectually. Yes, it appeals to our cultural obsession with violence (wait, maybe there is an topic for intellectual discussion here after all). No, I’m not expecting this game to have Oscar caliber writing and acting. And yes, it will be one hell of a good time and well worth the price of admission.
