AvP Trailer Proves That Survival is the New Deathmatch

I’m sure that most of us played Goldeneye 007 for the N64 back in our heyday and the majority of that time was spent slotting our friends in the Deathmatch mode. In almost every subsequent game, developers have tried to shoe-horn in a competitive match whether the title needed it or not, mostly based on the popularity of 007’s multiplayer. With the success of games like Left 4 Dead and Gears of War’s Horde Mode, it seems that four-player co-op survival against overwhelming odds is the new mode du jour. The thing is, with the Aliens versus Predator setting, it really, really works. Huddling in a corner with three buddies while the motion tracker makes its incessant beeping showing the xenomorph hordes getting closer and closer…should make for some entertaining games, to say the least. Take a look:

Most of us are still the in throes of Mass Effect 2 addiction, but who thinks that this game might derail them from that most epic of sci-fi RPGs? I think this and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are strong contenders in that regard. Tell us your thoughts!

  1. Must comment while mass effect 2 addiction eases….

This game looks amazing, one that I was really looking forward to. “Was” being the operative word since I live in Australia, so it looks like it might have to be let go. Either that or I order it over the internet and hope it works over here.

  2. Don’t forget Hunter Mode! It’s essentially the old “Man with the Golden Gun” scenario from Goldeneye, with one person as the Predator and the rest as marines. Kill the Predator and you become the Predator. Not sure what kind of online legs this game will have long term, but I’m super excited about it nonetheless.

  3. Zayven and I, who will be playing this on the PS3, have decided that anyone who says, “GAME OVER, MAN” at the end of a match will be dead to us.

Fair warning. Now….I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS GAME I AM GOING TO GO WATCH AN ALIEN MARATHON TO GET READY ZOMG!

  4. Eddy: you are dead to me. Come on! Use some of the obscure quotes, like:

“Yeah, man, but it’s a dry heat.”

“All right people, let’s go, assholes and elbows!”

“You tell me, man, I just work here”

“Maybe you haven’t been keeping up on current events, but we just got our asses kicked, pal!”

  5. I got a chance to see this game last e3, even in it’s beginning demo phase this game looked pretty sweat. I was a huge fan of the AVP 2 on computer. I can’t say I’m overly excited about the “survival mode” it seems that every game is including something like that since gears of war 2. I kind of find it to get dull after a little, I would of much rather seen something like a coup based campaign or spec ops like call of duty.

  6.
I will be saying GAME OVER MAN after every. single. match.
personally, I will be pulling predator lines… like I don’t got time to bleed.

    and the classic

    GET TO THE CHOPPA!

This game is tailor-made for something like Survival mode.

  8. My Mass Effect addiction is still to high to be thinking about other games. I’d probably pick this up though, if my friends get it, although most off them are to stuck into MW2 to see a good game. Although,i now have a ps3, so it could see some usage on this.

  9. Game looks like it could be a lot of fun. I’m just surprised how dated it looks. I know it’s hard to tell from the short shaky sequences, but looks like a game that’s a few years old already.
