New Transformers: War For Cybertron Trailer Gets My Hopes Up

I initially fought the urge to post this trailer without thinking, but a viewing of this wonderful piece of gaming hype has affirmed that I should never doubt my gut feelings. While the video is pre-rendered, it does give some indication that the final product will feature Gears of War-style cover mechanics and it has Peter Cullen voicing Optimus Prime, so what else do you want? I defy you to watch this trailer and not get excited about the game. Is the era of good licensed titles finally upon us? While we’ll have to wait until June 22 to find out, all signs are pointing to yes.

Thoughts?

  1. I didn’t like the first Shia LaBeouf movie enough to even see the second, BUT the childhood cartoons and my toys were awesome. This is on my list.

  2.
Solid point, Anthony, but I offer the following rebuttal:

    Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.

    That is all.
Peter Cullen voiced Optimus in the last two movies and they sucked. Proof of nothing.

  3. He was the only shining point of light in an otherwise pitch black house of torture. And the first movie wasn’t that bad.

At least they got Cullen to do the voice. The Halo anime couldn’t even get Steve Downes to do the Master Chief. Fail right there.

  4. Meh.

Maybe I’m just tired of these overblown faux-epic trailers. They’re just all blurring together for me.

And why should I have faith in this license, exactly? Has there EVER been a good Transformers game? Pardon my cynicism, but I just can’t get excited about Transformers anymore. And this is coming from someone who grew up with the original series and could probably still recite most of the 1987 movie from memory.

  5. Okay, NOW I’m excited.

The great reviews are rolling in and it looks like this game is going to be this year’s Arkham Asylum.

Saw it being played at the local Best Buy the other day and it looks awesome.

And it has 3 player co-op!
