Halo Anime Coming Next Year

halo-animeEven though they’re not my favorite games ever, I’m still a dork about anything related to the Halo universe, especially peripheral materials that explore other areas of the mythos. For some reason, Bungie hasn’t done a stellar job presenting their story within the confines of the game, but all of the extended media is an entirely different story.

That’s why I’m kind of excited about the Comic-Con announcement from today that reveals that Halo Legends, a Halo anime, is coming early next year to DVD and digital platforms. There aren’t a whole lot of details yet, but some pretty cool looking images. So far, all we know is that it’s going to be seven short films from the director of Appleseed Ex Machina, which I haven’t seen.

Anywho, does anyone else think this is kind of cool? Like I said, I’m not a huge Halo fanboy, but I really think it’s got a quality mythology behind it, and if the art is cool enough, this could be sweet. Thoughts?

  1. You know what makes everything better? Space bikes. Cross ’em with A-10 Warthogs, and you’ve pretty much sold me.

I’m not a big fan of anime, but I might check this out. I’m kind of lukewarm towards a Halo property that isn’t a video game now. The Cole Protocol book was terrible, and the new Helljumper comic isn’t that great.

  2. I played all the Halo games, but ti never really understood the plotline. i get the flood on the halos and destroying the universe blah blah blah, but why didnt the precursors or whatever theyre called kill them? i was never a big fan of the trilogy, but the story had some potential… does anyone get what the hell was going on?

  3. Well…I don’t know. I’ve never liked anime that much (i’ve learned to let it slide in such cases as the Tales series RPGs) and that picture accompanying the article just looks damn silly, especially with that thing at the top of Chief’s helmet (i’m assuming it’s Chief, anyway) extending way too far off the helmet than normal. Then again, it could be good. I’ll give it a chance if I remember it exists when it comes out.

It looks like a baseball cap. Im serious, is anyone really not looking forward to this? Anime always seems to distort reality, and I’m certain it will distort the halo franchise into something twisted and horrible. “Oh No! Master Cheif-san! Watch out for that horrible idea!”

Now that you’ve watched it, didn’t you think that the Gundam SPARTAN was a bit too anime? I mean, aside from the women with big doe eyes, the samurai Brute and the Space Bikes… Ah, dammit.[/quote]

Good lord! THAT WAS HORRIBLE. They gave the cheif ninja powers. This is totaly bull imo.

  6. THEY MUST STICK WITH THE STORY!

Stick with the books and things related to the story. I swear they cant keep gaying things up with ridiculous content. They need to have everything tie in, even if loosely, with each other.

For the picture….The flying space plane with the mini rail gun (assuming its a small MAC cannon) looks…I dunno haha.

If they do a good job, Ill appreciate it. Im always worried they will beat Halo to death and uncoolness.

  7. I just saw the trailer, and all i can say is wow.
    Are they on lanconian pot?
I was laughing the whole way through, i bet this will canceled after the first episode.

  8. ya… anime cant mix with anything very easily… turning anime into live action fails, turning live action in anime fails. Halo isn’t live action, but its not anime to begin with and that turning into anime I just dont think will work very well. anime can stay in its own little 2d world, and anime video games can stay away from non-anime video games.

I hope that any of that made sense.

  9. Geez dudes.

Anime is NOTHING like Funimation’s dumb Dragon Ball Z and all the kiddy crap. There’s a heap of good material out there, that can be really deep and emotional.

Although you probably won’t take my point, watch Elfen Lied or Clannad sometime. Elfen Lied has gore and partial nudity, but also carries an important message. Clannad is straight out awesome in character development.

Anime DOES WORK (when it’s not fucked up over intensive editing processes by dubbing it into English).

Anyway, the one by TOEI, which is the one featuring the 1337 Spartan IS NOT CANON.

The rest seem alright. Although some of the art styles are a bit iffish.

And I think army still learn sword fencing, so the MC vs Elite thing doesn’t seem TOO out of the ordinary…

  10. oh, and all stories are done by Frankie 😀 Well, some of the scripts are done by him, but the main plotlines are all done by him.

  11. Jus saw the trailer. I believe it’s going to be something like “Animatrix” from the Matrix; Couple different storys of the Halo world in CG anime, old school anime, and so on.

  12. I proclaim this idea as a failure of the most epic proportions. At least studio bones does do good animation and such. Fair warning to you all though, elfen lied is a complete piece of crap. More or less it’s all violence and nudity. The other thing is that bad anime dubs stopped being made about 3 years ago. in most cases what you see in English is what you see in Japanese.
