GamerSushi Asks: Favorite Game of E3?

e3As I’ve said before in other places, E3 really is the pinnacle of the gaming year. It’s a magical time where gamers get to find out what they can expect for the next year and a half or so, gaming-wise. We’re able to speculate, drool and generally get excited about all the things we love.

The week saw a lot of crazy things. There’s Project Natal from Microsoft which actually looks to show some promise despite my earlier misgivings about it. There’s also the Team Ninja Metroid and Final Fantasy XIV for the PS3. Halo: Reach was a pretty big announcement, as well. On top of that, we got to see some gameplay for things coming out soon, like Assassin’s Creed 2, Mass Effect 2 and Modern Warfare 2.

My favorite game of the show though was probably Uncharted 2 or Splinter Cell: Conviction. I wasn’t expecting much from the next Splinter Cell at all, but they’ve really overhauled the gameplay since the last time we saw the game, and for the better.

So what about you guys? What was the most impressive E3 thing you saw this week?

  1. So many to choose from:

Alan Wake looked cool and I am excited for Golden Sun DS, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story and C.O.P. looks pretty rad.

The Final Fantasy XIV Online has really gotten me pumped. I would have played FF XI if I was able to, so I am fully set to jump on board with this.

Uncharted 2 looks fantastic, I think that is a really high-end exclusive for the PS3. I hated Assassin’s Creed, but AC 2 seems to have improved on the problems of the first game, so I am ready to give it another try.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is gorgeous and with Kojima making it, I know the action will be out of this world (just no hour long cut scenes, please).

But the happiest moment of E3 came yesterday, when I discovered that the Koopa Kids will make their triumphant return to Mario in New Super Mario Bros Wii. Everyone loves the Koopa Kids!

  2. I’d have to say what I was happiest to see was Alan Wake, even though it may not be on the immediate horizon. I was really hoping Heavy Rain would occupy this spot, but somehow it just wasn’t as compelling. Might have something to do with the fact that one of them would require a rather significant hardware purchase…

  3. Ok, Of E3, COD4MW2 (haha) That game is gunna rock!

Now…I would say ODST BUT, I seem to be learning more from what bungie keeps putting on their site. That game….man its going to be a whole new kind of Halo (thank goodness) 😀

  4. My E3 List of Badass (In no particular order):

    1. Mass Effect 2

    2. Halo 3: ODST

    3. Assassin’s Creed 2

    4. Battlefield 1943/Bad Company 2

    5. Halo: Reach

    6. Modern Warefare 2.

I can keep going. This year’s E3 was a cornucopia of treats, veritably overflowing with blessing from the gods.

  5. at first i though it would be all about mw2, i mean really, it looked amazing. but then, then i saw halo : reach. being someone who has read all the books, to hear fred say “we’ve lost our bird, were coming in hot” was fantasic. mainly because it was unexpected. i mean, if it is an fps with halo 2 and 3 gameplay mechanics it is going to be soooo sick.

  6. geeze, choosing one game? thats really hard. For me i would have to say Mass Effect 2, I really like to kill time in the first game away from COD and Halo 3, just by my self exploring planets then getting the crap scared out of me by a thresher maw, or a geth attack. I’ll admit this years christmas is going to be pretty crazy with all the good games coming back.

Dude, I’ve read the books and I geeked out over that line too! I can’t imagine having a sequence in-game of that catastrophic drop. I also wonder if the game will delve into all of the stuff that happens on Reach during First Strike.

Mind if I join in? I hope they do one based on Ghosts of Onyx. SPI armour FTW! More emphasis on sneaky tactics and invisibilty would be VERY nice.
My fave E3 game would have to be MW2. Seriously, if I get any more excited I’ll be OMGASMing as much as Cossack!

  9. I’m surprised that nobody mentioned Borderlands. Not enough game devs even consider cel shading, and creating a mature post-apocalyptic game with it? It’s definitely a stretch, but from the looks of things it’s turning out really well.

  10. 1.Halo 3: ODST (Finally knew what ODST standed for XD)

    2.Modern warfare 2
Are of course the hyped 2

    3.Assassin’s creed 2
The kick ass, stealth, ninja game play game

    4.360’s project Natal
It’s always great to see amazing new technology’s like this. It might not be good for gaming tho.

    5.L4D2
Yeah, yeah, It’s too early for a sequel. Blah, blah. But It’s still going to be the awesome-est, no matter what.

I kinda hope they try not too much to delve into The first Strike, but I am guessing they are going to do that.

Someone brought up a good point, it could very well be Halo Wars style (though major odds are no) there are several space battles in that, which is kinda what I wanted to mention. I always had trouble picturing some of the ships, Hopefully this game does a good job of that. They better not screw up the game though. I think they are making the right choice turning back the clock instead of going on after Halo 3

Uuuh I dunno if going the Ghosts of Onyx rout would be good. The SPI armor is basically a variant in Halo 3 anyway. Though I must say, GoO is my 2nd favorite book in the series behind Reach

  12. Its weird… I seemed the most pumped for DJ Hero right now. Watching that video of the guy playing through a whole song was awesome and it just looks like soo much fun. And I think the music mixes will be awesome too.

I also am excited for the PS3 motion controls. I just hope developers come out with some awesome HD games to go with them.

All the other games I already knew about so E3 hasn’t really got me any more pumped for other games, but I still want to get Uncharted 2, Fat princess, MAG, and… wow that might be it unless I forgot somethin.

  13. Why isn’t anyone mentioning GT5 ? That, flashpoint2 and mw2 were the three most anticipated games for me. Well, since nobody aired the codmasters booth at E3, and I dont live in L.A., the games I really loved were GT5 and mw2.

  14. I’m looking forward to Modern Omgasm 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, Golden Sun 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Metroid: Other M.

Late ’09 and ‘010 are gonna be AWESOME!

  15. ODST and Reach are on the top of my list. Modern Warefare looks great as well, I may pick that up too. L4D2 is a maybe, only because I’m still working on number 1. MGS: Rising is also a maybe as well.

As for the wii, New Super Mario Brothers will definitely have me plugging my wii back in again. SMG2 and Other M will help it stay on also. At least until LOZ comes out next year…

that’s what im hopping, cause that would be amazing. plus they would have more of the cut scenes where Spartans go nuts (a la halo wars) but in a first person game. also a GoO game would be kinda cool. i mean, just thinking about being able to see that final battle where there tearing down the plant (as in actually seeing forrunner city’s) and the splinter cell kinda sneaking around at the start would be soo cool. actuall most of the books would make for really cool games (the flood, not the greatest in the series but its based on the best game) haha there’s my rant (just incredibly jacked for the game haha)
