Modern Warfare 2 Details From Game Informer

modern-warfare2Got the newest issue of Game Informer in the mail today, and I was pleased to see that this issue’s cover story was a first look at Modern Warfare 2, from Infinity Ward. Considering we’ve had naught but two tiny teasers to go on so far for this game, I was instantly excited to tear it open and read away.

While there’s no real earth shattering news about the game, there are a few details that have been confirmed by the developers. For one, there doesn’t seem to be a co-op mode for the single player campaign, however, there will be a new co-op mode called Special Forces. This mode thrusts the player into crazy scenarios (a la Mile High Club from CoD4) built for co-operative play with some buddies.

In addition, Modern Warfare 2 continues the story of the first game, taking you to the snowy regions of Russia as well as the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan and will be about 8-10 hours long, about the same amount as CoD4. Enemies will carry modifiable weapons, much like foes might in multiplayer. Also, there will be lots of destructible props within the environment, many more than in previous entries.

All in all, while there’s nothing to really get pumped about, it’s cool to hear more about Modern Warfare 2. I’m really pumped about Special Forces mode, as it is full of the kinds of scenarios that Infinity Ward couldn’t fit in the story. The one in the magazine featured commandos storming a shower room, decked out with riot shields as enemies fired down from above. It looks awesome.

So, who else is pumped about this game?

  1. While the multiplayer doesn’t thrill me much anymore, I did love the singleplayer to bits, even when I was raging my ass off trying (and eventually beating) Veteran. This game might rekindle the love I did have for its multiplayer with those fun-sounding Special Forces scenarios.

  2. I really want to get excited about this, but apparently the single player is just going to be another 6-10 hour stint, while multiplayer will likely be more of the same. Still, I’ll wait until it’s closer to release before I start judging it.

  3. MODERN WARFARE 2!!!!

I’m a very cheapass person, so I just found some scans of the GameInformer article off of the InterGooguls. :3
Anyway, I’m totally psyched! I can’t wait for more info on MP, but for now, it looks like Solo and Spec Force modes are gonna kick ass!

So you’d rather have 0 new hours than 6-10 new hours? You crazy.

But yeah, I’m with you dudes that are pumped about Special Forces mode. The screenshots they have of it are incredible.

  5. Ugh, STILL waiting for my Game Informer to show up.

Seriously, this looks like it’ll be an Epic read. I heard they Confirmed Soap is your CO.

    YAY.

A lot of sign language at briefings, then?

I’m sort of looking forward to this, but I’m beginning to feel the CoD fatigue. I think this may be my last one unless the game play radically changes.

  7. It won’t be the same without Captain Price. Soap had better have put on his tache in honour of him.

  8. Rookie, lol. That made me remember an old Star Wars game where you played as Rookie 1. Can’t remember which one it was. Anyone know?

    Rebel Assault, baby! Woo!

    Rebel Assault.

I would rather have a short and awesome single player (thats not including the Special Forces mode) than get bored with it cause it tries to do too much. I still have not beat COD4 cause I can’t stop playing online!

  11. I hope on thing mainly. I really hope that they balance the game.

No more surviving 50 cal shots in ANY game mode. I never touched normal game modes in COD4 and W@W because of the rediculousness of the system. Surviving a .50 cal or a 8mm mauser shot to the chest…no. Total crud.

I hope MW2 will make the system more balanced. Some may argue that it ruins aspects of the gameplay and that there IS a hardcore gametype, but that one one pet-peve I had.

  12. You’re disappointed with only 6-10 hours of gameplay? Fine, set it on Veteran the first time through – I can almost gurantee you’ll be playing more than 10 hours, unless you’re a Gameshark!

I loooved CoD4, Wasn’t impressed by World at War, so obviously I can’t wait for this installment!

I was also curious about the “Mile High” esque missions. The first one was cool, but I was surprised after finishing the game that there weren’t more of these scenarios! Can’t wait to play through some fresh scenarios.
