GamerSushi Asks: Best Games You’ve Never Played?

ff6We all know what some of the greatest games of all time are. We’ve seen the list, we’ve heard the arguments. Heck, we may have even seen friends playing them, so we’ve at least experienced the greatness. But there’s no way we’ve played all of them.

For one reason or another, I’ve missed out on a few of the “greatest games ever” throughout my life. I say that I always want to go back and play them some day, but as I get older and have less free time, this seems highly unlikely. I think for me, the greatest games I’ve never played are Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy VI, Super Mario World, and the original Half-Life (I know, I know).

I hope that someday I’ll finish all of these great games, but we’ll see what happens. What about you guys? What are the best games you’ve never played?

  1. for me its system shock 1&2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and last but not least deus ex =O.

I’ll get around to playing these games “one of these days”.

  2. Ive never played any Final Fantasy, its not that Im against the franchise its just one of those things you look back and wonder why… it was probably because my older brothers controlled the games we got and never were into rpgs. I did have Chocobo Racing for the PS1 and I played it for days, that was the first games I got my dad to play… I wish I never set him down that path, he hogs the PS3 now lol

  3. I’ve never played SOTC – it’s been on the top of my to-play list for who knows how long, but I’ve just never gotten around to it – maybe this summer I’ll finally find time…

  4. HAVEN’T PLAYED HL1? I don’t think I can trust you anymore 🙁 GO BUY IT RIGHT NOW!

Is FFVI all that great? Never got around to playing it.

I haven’t bothered to play Warcraft 3, but it looks good.

Also never played the original Resident Evils (didn’t look that great to me)

Plenty of other great games I’ve never played, but I can’t remember them off the top of my head.

I agree, but he could just wait for black mesa source to come out 😀

  6. Half Life, Metal Gears Series, Final Fantasy, RE series (Except for 5). And more. BTW what was that remake of Half Life those people were making with Source…

  7. I usually would say my debatable top three were: Ace Combat 4, Super Mario 64, and Oblivion.

Those are three games that I have had tons of fun playing and If I were to go sit down and play them now, it would be just as fun. There are many other games I have played that were super awesome, but those are my top three big ones.

  8. Yeah, the plan is to pick up Black Mesa Source when it comes out. I’ve played the first like 30 minutes of HL 1, but not really any longer after that.

Not a bad idea, but the neat thing is for people who have played it, to see how the levels and gun models have changed, and the nostalgia comes with it. Not to mention, you need a good day set aside for HL1. You may think that’s a bit long, but the way it can draw you in is what calls for it.

  10. KOTOR, Morrowind and Link to the Past. There are others but these are the only ones that spring to mind rught now.

    Dude!!
I’ve played through the entire HL,plus the expansions (Blue Shift and Opposing Force) back in the day (when i was 8) and i still plan to play BMS. But Eddy, the original is always something else… in epic proportions!

  12. Oh, the list of great games I’ve never played is shamefully long:

The first 3 Call of Duties (although I did play Big Red One)
    The entire Metal Gear series
    Final Fantasy 7 (blasphemy, right?)
Super Mario 64 (well, I got it on DS, so maybe it balances out)
Half-Life 1 (I do, however, have the Half Life 2’s, and with Black Mesa Source coming out, this won’t be a problem for much longer)
Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, SOCOM, or any other tactical shooter really

and a bunch of other games I can’t recall. I hope I’ll find enough time over the summer to rant/buy some old incredible classics and play them.

  13. Eddy, all those games you mentioned I played the hell out of and you need to play them right now.

I never really played Half Life 2. I loved the first one, but the 2nd didn’t grab me so I quit playing.

Halo 3 and anything else for the 360. I have played everything else.

Did you play Half Life 2 on the crappy Orange Box port for the PS3? You really need to play it unblemished! Also it came out in 2004, so that needs to be kept in mind.

  15. The fight through City 17 in HL2 is still, for my money, the best set piece of any FPS to date. They really nailed the feeling of visceral street combat, even if it is against Striders and gunships.

As for great games, I’ve never played…

    Any Final Fantasy
Tomb Raider (when it was good)
    Castlevania
    System Shock
    Dues Ex

The list can probably keep going, actually. As a gamer, you’re bound to miss a lot, even if you try to hit every game during a year. Same thing with movies. I’ve never seen the Godfather, which shocks some people.

  16. Yeah, I played it on the Orange Box, but that wasn’t it. I played Half Life in 2002 on the PS2.

I did not see what was wrong with The Orange Box. I guess since I didn’t play it on the PC. I think too much was made of that because I had no issues.

It just didn’t excite me. I loved Portal, but Half Life 2 was kinda…eh. I expected more after loving the first game. I may go back and try again sometime.

I loved every second of HL2… Portal is in another league of awesomeness, but when you get the gravity gun, you feel like… Gordon.

By the way, If anyone has the Orange Box for the 360, I dare you to do “The One Free Bullet” achievement. 😛

Also, I think GS should make more HL related features…

  18. A couple of games I really want to get around to playing are the original Mega Man games, namely Mega Man 2. I’ve always loved the music for those games but I’ve never actually played them 🙂 Of course, that would require me to have a NES, which I sadly don’t possess.

I also want to play Metal Gear Solid 1-3 at some point, they seem like interesting games.

  19. Well…
HL1, I played most of it, just never finished it.
MGS 2-4. First one was AMAZING just never got around to the rest.
FF7 I know how weird is that.
    And many others sadly.

  20. Anyone who spoke about MGS or Dues Ex Truly knows their games…

We can fight all day about consoles and platforms, but at the heart of gaming are the titles that everyone should play, and no matter how many people I argue with, agree with, game with or ignore, it always comes down to the fact that these 2 series should be played and understood.

And Half-life titles cannot be truly *felt* on console, you gotta play them on a PC, sorry if that makes me a realist.

If we’re talking Indie – Braid, Larva Mortus and Crayon Physics Deluxe should be purchased and marveled at… sheer genious…

(sorry if there are errors, its friday night =) )

Me too! I recently got MGS4 and I love it. But I think I would like it even more if I knew more about the past stories. There’s a lot of confusing stuff in 4. Like what happened at Shadow Moses and everythin.

I played FF 6 on my computer using one of those emulators. And ya… it was really good. I thought the story was cool and the huge twist that happens is just epic.

I’ve never played SOTC or God of War (well the psp demo I have). And the only Valve game I’ve ever played was Portal. I think I should buy that Complete Valve Pack one of these days…
