GamerSushi Asks: Competitive Gaming?

tournamentSo tonight I played and lost in a Halo Wars tournament hosted by the good dudes over at Rooster Teeth. It was a 32 man 1 v 1 tournament that lasted a total of 4 hours before it was all said and done. Well, really, for me, it only lasted about 30 minutes, as I went out in the first round.

To be honest though, I don’t feel too bad, seeing as how the guy and I fought it out like crazy and actually had a pretty close game… and then he went all the way to the finals. It stinks knowing that I might have made it that far, but what can you do? Anywho, it made me think about other tournament situations I’ve played in, which haven’t been many. I’ve participated in a couple of Halo tournaments, but they were so poorly put together that anybody could have made it out of there.

What about you guys? What games have you played competitively?

  1. Me and my friends sometimes do the tournaments that Gamestop hosts on launch nights or whatever. One time I was in the final match in Smash Bros Brawl and this older kid, bleached hair and whos outfit screamed, I wish I was japanese, beat me. I never got into the clan or team thing but I did so a Fantasy Football/Madden online tournament… it was tough but fun.

  2. I used to be a big SOCOM junkie…clan wars in the game were amazing, before everyone started cheating. Oh the glory days…

  3. Don’t get me started on “competitive” gaming.

I’ve only played TFC and TF2 competitively because to play the game competitively doesn’t require you to incredibly dumb down the game to create this ‘level playing field’ farce.

  4. None, other than ones set up by like dorms.

    BUT STORY TIME!
Kid I play Halo 3 with her, I have LANed with this kid, ridden in his car, been in his house, …ect. So I KNOW this kid. He went to MLG in NY last round.

His team placed 47th in the world and my friend won himself $5,000. He has a picture of him with his giganto check and some chick. He is planning on going back to the next tournament as well.

They lost out when the team they played gave them a 6 min game. The worst dude on my friend team didnt get a kill for about a min I think he said, and he ended up with only 2. Still, 47th in the WORLD. Pretty damn impressive. He is nuts.

  5. I probably could play semi-competitively in a few games, but I never have, and I don’t plan to. I game to have fun…plus, I don’t always have time to play as much as I’d like to, so anything remotely scheduled is out.

  6. I played a few seasons with a few crews in cal O and IM but never anything meaningful, I never took it seriously enough.

  7. My freshman year at college their was a Halo 2 torment that I won luckily.

Later on Senior year their was a multi-game competition that included Halo 3, street fighter 2, Paint ball for original Nintendo,Mario cart and candy land.

  8. The GameStop over where I live is pretty cool. They actually hold tournaments with each other/lucky customers that hear about them when they’re shopping once in a while after closing time. Small, non-official tournaments, to be sure. But they’re still fun nonetheless.
