Bioshock 2, Starring the Big Daddy

bioshock2Got my Game Informer in the mail yesterday, which featured not only awesome cover art of the new “Big Sister” from BioShock2, but also a story with some of the first details of the game.

From the article, it seems that this game takes place 10 years after the first game, and the “bad ending” as canon for moving forward. Rapture has fallen into chaos and disarray, and the Little Sisters, now grown up and sporting a mean Adam addiction (including a needle directly into their arms) have returned as Big Sisters, sporting Big Daddy-esque gear.

The big twist, though? You play as a Big Daddy. The first Big Daddy, to be exact- the prototype that is smaller, quicker and able to use plasmids. And while fighting Big Daddies is no longer as challenging as it once was, fighting Big Sisters sounds terrifying. They hunt you, can leap across a room in one bound, and hurl objects at you via telekinesis.

So, what do you guys think? I’m optimistic, but the prospect of playing as a Big Daddy could be hit or miss. Thoughts?

  1. I have faith. I don’t see how playing as a Big Daddy would be very different, especially in an FPS, where you don’t see your character.

    Totally pumped.

  2. When I read it it sounded like the Big Sister was just one, not many, and she controlled Rapture. Also I did not see the part where they stated the bad ending was canon. Also Anthony the difference is you can now use weapons that where too big for your character in the last game, such as the drill and the Rivet Gun. Also, you can use weapons and plasmids at the same time.

  3. Sounds like fun! Hopefully the install on my PS3 wont be as big this time. That’s the only reason I never got the firts one.

  4. I won’t give spoilers, but considering how the last one ended, I don’t think it’ll have that huge of an impact on the game. …unless you have to protect a little sister, that is.

  5. Sounds great, I was wondering what kind of plot twist they were making. Thanks for sharing!

btw, the big sister thing looks awesome.

  6. I pretty excited, combining plasmids sounds pretty cool and the shoulder charge attack looks sweet.

  7. I cant wait! I got the bad ending the first time so its gonna be nice to see what raptures been up to in my absence. And playing as the first big-daddy sounds awesome. Though its gonna be odd killing your “daughters”.

  8. That’s really interesting how they used the bad ending as the basis for the sequel. It really makes a statement about BioShock’s philosophy.
It’ll be cool to play as Proto-Daddy and fight other Big Daddies, but the Big Sisters sound like Hunters from Left 4 Dead. That’s not a bad thing, not at all.
I can’t wait to see BS2. I never played BS1, and I think I’ll take a deeper look into the series now. I bet not playing the original will bite me in the ass when I’m playing BS2 though, so it looks like I’ll have to go get it.

  9. Great stuff. Looking forward to the game as well. Yeah, I’m with the people who say that playing as a Big Daddy won’t be that big of a deal. Maybe to the story/concept if you’re a careful and particular about that stuff, but unless they make it a HUGE difference, then it should be fine. The Big Sisters look crazy..almost like..a more humanesque version of the Ing from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Actually, they look like a combination of Samus and the Ing

  10. As for being a Big Daddy the game developers might give that player one or two plasmids/abilities that one one else in the game has i.e going all berserk like the Big Daddies in the first game went all berserk to protect the little sisters.

Yeah your gonna want to play the first game, or at least learn the WHOLE story.

  12. Lol. The good ending was sooo fruity-tooty. & Yes, it deserved the use of that phrase. I’m never saving little girls from anything ever again in my life. Ever.
