We all love lists. You know it’s true. It’s so fun to look at something that’s ordinarily so difficult to measure and to break it down in to easy to understand numbers. And then after we’re done, we can bitch about whether or not the list was right, in our oh so humble opinions.
Anywho, Edge has put up a list of 100 Best Games to Play Today, and it’s a pretty epic order. It’s not exactly a “best games of all time” list. But rather, if you had access to every game ever made, these are the 100 that you should play right away, classic or not. Definitely an interesting take.
While I don’t know that I’d put Ocarina of Time at the top, I have to say that I love that Mario 64 came in second, as that would probably be my number 1 or close to it as well. Also, their description of Counter-Strike is absolutely perfection.
What did you guys think of the list? What would be the first games you would play with access to every game ever made?

Super Mario 64 is well deserving of #2. Seriously there has never been a mario like it. I wish Galaxy was as fun. It was close, but nothing like 64.
Super Metroid. I missed it on the SNES and I love the series now.
I definitely disagree with some. Star Fox should be much higher top 20 at least even though it would be in my top 5. And Singstar wtf? I dont wanna play singstar. I was glad to see Peggle its something I never would have expected but its a great game. Overall I thought it was a good list
No Diablo II or Warcraft? I mean, Starcraft is just as good, but you’re getting your ass handed to you anyways no matter which Blizzard game you play online.
Glad to see that Civilization IV made it on there. Finally got around to playing that after Steam had a sale on IV and its expansions, and I’ve really been enjoying it.
Metroid Prime would have been a great addition to that list. I played that game with a single-minded obsession when it came out. Oh yeah, where’s Knight of the Old Republic and Mass Effect?
No KOTOR?? Oh well, it was an amazing game, but maybe there not star wars fans. And CIV IV I loved that game glad its on there. But Ocarina of Time number 1 really? It wasnt that good.
How in the world could Frequency beat out amplitude? I have played both religiously, and while frequency offers a bit more in terms quality music, amplitude just plays so much better.
Also Ocarina of Time Would definatly be #1 on my list. It was just chalening enough that it wasn’t frustrating yet still fun.
Ugh…as usual, most of the titles are out-of-place. Twilight Princess should have been MUCH higher, definitely higher than Animal Crossing.
Other than that, yeah it’s a good enough list.
It seems that a lot of titles were placed in certain positions out of opinion. I mean, Counter-Strike: Source was placed 55th, where Pokémon: Yellow was placed right above it? Ocarina of time may be a classic, and may be spectacular, but it isn’t worth spot #1 on a game list like that.
def agree oot should be number one. and i think majoras mask should b higher as well..i mean at least top 50. i really loved that game and thought it did a good job of briding oot to the next level.
other than that its a pretty good list…
