GamerSushi Asks: What Remakes Do You Want?

10259finalfantasyviiorige5Remakes and ports of older games is really starting to become a trend in gaming. Square Enix alone must have a whole team dedicated to retreads of their older games. With the PSN’s PS1 Classics, Xbox Live Arcade and the Virtual Console, retro gaming has never been stronger.

But there are ports and there are remakes and there is a difference between the two. A port is simply porting a game from an older system to an existing system with little or no changes to the actual game. A remake is updating the graphics, translation, adding new story or gameplay elements and things of that nature.

So with that established, what games do you want to see remade, with new graphics and updated gameplay? As previously noted, Final Fantasy VII is the big one we all hear about, but I would prefer Final Fantasy VI. The jump from PS1 to PS3 is not as great as SNES to PS3, so I would rather see something more substantial. Or even FFVI remade for the DS in the same way that Final Fantasy IV was. Then you could do FFVII for the PS3 and not overkill things.

With online play, I think Secret of Mana, which allowed for 3 players to play on the SNES with the use of a Multi-Tap, would be a fine game to update. Or imagine if Nintendo made a 3D version of Super Mario World or one of the other 2D Mario games. There are tons of games out there we all loved and just for fantasy’s sake, lets indulge:

What games from your past would you want remade? On what system would you like to see it on and what updates would you want to see? Go!

  1. Gotta go with Conkers Bad Fur Day… they added new Multiplayer aspects and tweaked the story mode in Conkers: Live and Reloaded but that was the last I saw of my squirrel friend. The original’s multiplayer was my favorite part so to see it remade would be awesome. Another would be Rayman, not this new Raving Rabbits stuff I’m talking about the PS1 or Rayman 2 on the N64 that took so many hours of my childhood. They’re not exactly old but they were back 2 consoles ago witch in a videogame’s lifetime seems too long for such a good game.

  2. Black Mesa: Source.

HL: Source never bothered me considering I got it for free with my HL2 GOTY edition, but Black Mesa just looks AWESOME. And it’s not even a commercial game!

  3. Emm, by changing the story and gameplay they may also ruin it. I’d like to see updated graphics but that’s all. There chance that it might waste the game is just too big.

  4. This is a sweet question. I think updating all the MGS titles to the ps3 quality would be fantastic. And how about some Deus Ex with real physics!

The SNES super mario world would definetly be my favourite to see 3-D’d up. Maybe turn it into a bit of a sandbox game; maybe with a Garry’s Mod mode sorta thing.

Legend of Zelda – Link to the past: Featuring an objectives screen and people who are capable of telling you where to go next.

  5. I’d love the FFVII remake, personally. Another game I think needs to be remade is the original Bushido Blade series for the PS1. They had a PS2 version that introduced health bars, when not having them is what made bushido blade so distinct in the first place.

Or might make it better and clean it up a bit.

I would love to see a new version of Actraiser. Awesome game, change your life.

  7. I would really like to see a remake of goldeneye from the n64, but i think i would rather it just be more of an update in terms of graphics and controls, not necessarily a new game.

*GASP!* You read my mind! Twice! MGS and Deus Ex ftw! I’d love an update of the Syphon Filter series as the PSP ones were amazing. A Goldeneye remake may seem to be a pipe dream right now, but I have a ‘hunch’…

Really? Loved that game, but it was just out last gen.

Thing is, it was due for a sequel that got canceled for some reason or another. There is a group making one with the unreal engine, though.

  11. If they didn’t remake MGS on the gamecube and letting those silicon guys do it…then I’d say MGS 😛

But as someone mentioned before, that Black Mesa: Source just looks awesome. Plus it’s completely free if you have steam. Can’t get a better deal.

  12. I also can’t wait for Black Mesa: source its gonna be amazing, but I would like to see a fallout 1 remake that is played like fallout 3 but with the locations and characters of fallout 1

Riddick’s getting a remake, and that was out around the same time as Republic Commando. Throw in some extra content, and boom! Instant hit.

If I have to go back further, I’d say Star Fox. Like, the original Star Fox, no ground combat or dinosaur-planet Zelda rip-offs. And put in on something other than the Wii. Ok, I may have well asked for the impossible, but Star Fox was awesome, dammit!

  14. It’d be cool if the following games were remade:
    Halo 1 and 2
    Ocarina of Time
    Some old FF’s
and I’m too lazy to continue the list. But emphasis on Halo 1.

  15. umm HALO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! halo : ce would be a sick remake. I CAN HAZ PLZZZZ OMG JUST THINKING ABOUT IT MAKES ME WANT TO… AHHHHHH!!!! ahaha 🙂

  16. I also would like to see another Conker remake. Hopefully Rare would release it completely uncensored like they were going to do with Live and Reloaded rather than just censoring more out. Another game I’d like to see remade that hasn’t been mentioned is Perfect Dark. I loved the original 64 Perfect Dark and I would definitely trade that shitty prequel they gave us for an awesome remake of the original. Oh, and a Chrono Trigger remake for the 360/PS3 would be amazing. Kinda sucks how the team that was doing Chrono Resurrection got shut down by Square.

  17. K…

How bout a Rayman game, with… uh… i dunno……. Rayman actually in it? I’m talking the old N64 platforming type one, like the one that kinda ruled. All the time now when people think of Rayman, they’ll think, “oh what, you mean Raving Rabbids?”

Also Banjo Kazooie, but also back to their old traits. Haven’t played nuts and bolts, maybe it’s fun, but there’s no doubt that it would have been better if RARE stuck with their unique platforming style in the N64 days, that made DK64 and Conker so addicting. It’s been two gaming generations and there’s so many new tools and graphics to use that could make the Banjo Threeie, that I’ve waited for for… ten years?!?!

  18. Lol, I actually played that Secret of Mana game Anthony talked about, had a blast with it with friends, although I think the mechanics are too simple for this gen….but on a remake, I would go with a Baldur’s Gate, I can’t recall the name, but I loved one of the early ones….god, what was it called?

  19. Hmm… I think a lot of FPS fans are with me on this on

GOLDENEYE! that was the game that got me hooked onto FPS. And Halo:CE, just because Im a giant Halo fan. and maybe the sequal to Republic Commando, but thats not what this is about is it? Hmm… some Legend of Zelda remakes would be very nice, or maybe some Metroid games?

  20. Sorry for post again so soon, but I just remembered a great game to remake…
Call of Duty 2, that was my all time favorite Call of Duty game! COD4 is a close second, but to many issues with the respawning in multilayer for me, and some guns,*cough* M16 *cough*, are a little to unbalanced.

  21. Theres a TON of old school RPGs that I’d like to see remade. Stuff that was so much fun in 2d or topdown, that would be amazing with modern graphics.

I absolutely LOVED that game, it is just great! Finally a Star Wars game that focused on something other than jedi. Anyways, I would buy that in a minute. How about one of the following gets made:

1.) Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 3

    2.) Full Spectrum Warrior 3

    3.) Airport Tycoon

Airport Tycoon could have been so great but it just seemed like it was pushed out with some issues overlooked, kinda like End War…

Hahaha…mmmm…black mesa sauce. Smoky and sweet, with a tangy headcrab aftertaste.
