And the hype begins. Bioware has released the first official Mass Effect 2 teaser trailer, and it is just that. A tease. Also, it’s incredibly short, but packed with some potentially interesting stuff. All I’ve got to say are these two things: do, and want.

I wouldnt be said if he was dead starting over with a new character would allow more freedom for the developers but im guessing he is alive but barely and thats why he sucks at the beginning of the game and u need to retrain him.

Well, here goes my prediction for what Mass Effect 2 will be: Our boy (or girl) commander Shepherd was killed in a mysterious way doing some mysterious thing, and its up to you to find out what work he was on (with the help of his team) and complete it before super-Geth bad guys bring the Reapers back.
Party members will change, but you will still be able to keep contact with the old party members. Also, my psychic powers tell me that we’ll finally see an asari in heavy armour who can kick the smurfs out of pretty much anyone.
That is what I think at any rate.

A quick check of Wikipedia revealed to me the significance of this Shepard person (never played the first one). Well done to the devs for having the balls to kill of a players own created character!

There is definately nothing to lose when it comes to playing Mass Effect – you can only gain from the experience.

My guess is that he is undercover in the lawless city of Omega, which will do wonders for the gameplay and plot decision elements of the game. BTW Omega is in the Mass Effect book Ascension.

Let me guess… Commander Shepard is dead… But has a special Prothean memory chip tthat lets you import your character’s memories (Skillz) from mass effect 1. So your character inserts the mem chip, and becomes Commander Shepard.
Something like that. Or, he’s MIA.

now that i have re-played the game 4 times its a good time for a sequel but with shepard dead it does open up more options for the plot.

I doubt that he’s actually dead. But it’s definitely a really cool concept. Imagine starting the game on the hunt for what happened to Shepherd, only to find him part of the way through, still alive.

Yea I dont think he is dead just prehaps trapped somewere (neverending elevator) and you have to come rescue him to learn the main plot.

On that note, thats when you could play as Shepherd from your ME save file. Would be sweeeet.
