Star Wars: The Old Republic Trailer

Here’s a new trailer from Bioware’s MMO, The Old Republic. While it may seem like just a regular old “making of” featurette, there’s actually a good bit of stuff from the game as it goes on. The more I see from this game, the more it ratchets up the “do want” meter that exists somewhere inside of my brain. Curse you Bioware!

  1. Oh, man, do want! I played Star Wars Galaxies back in its heyday, and this game has me pretty excited.

    BioWare did a really fantastic job on Knight of the Old Republic, so I’m sure they can pull this off.

    My one gripe is that I do not want to be forced to play as a Jedi or Sith. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, as I’ve stated before, but I’m really not interested in being a Force-user. Again. I’d like to play as a Mandalorian bounty hunter, a smuggler, or a hot-shot pilot for hire. In a galaxy where robe-wearing monks can levitate large objects and eviscerate you with a shiny stick, I think that the more interesting story is the one of a soldier for hire trying to squeeze by in an insane universe.

  2. I don’t know about this one.
    I absolutely loved KoTOR and KoTOR2, but a MMO… ? Sure it’ll look great, but Bioware’s real talent is in story telling and character creation, and their best games are fairly linear. If anyone can blend individual story with MMO it will be Bioware, but until it hits, I will remain skeptical.

  3. Wait…wait….hold on. My eyes totally bypassed the “MMO” acronym in the main article.

    If this is true, and this turns out to be ANYTHING like “Galaxies” I will rent a van and allow up to 14 other people to come with me to burn down all offices and studios responsible.

    The only fee I will charge will be a fair amount of cash for gas.

    But so far as I can see from the trailer, they seem to truly care about the experience as opposed to…whatever the hell they were trying to do with Galaxies.

    ::crosses fingers::

  4. As long as no one buys kotormmo and tries to make it “appeal to the beginner player” like what happend with galaxies then im sure it will be fine and dandy.
