WoW Could Be The World’s 4th Largest City

wow1It seems that WoW has now surpassed the 11.5 million subscriber mark this month, after decimating the 11 million mark just a short while ago. I guess those Wrath of the Lich King sales really pushed them over the edge. Who knew?

Seriously, though, that’s an absurd amount of subscribers. Stacked up against the biggest cities of the world, that places WoW just above Delhi, India which has 11.3 million people in the city proper. Just a couple more million to pass Mumbai (13.6 million), and that will be something quite unprecedented in gaming.

It’s hard to imagine that many people all playing the same game all the time. I’m really just baffled by that number. So how many of you here have played or are currently WoW players? You are a mighty army, I’m told. I’d rather not cross you.

  1. Seriously. The one time I played an MMO for a weekend I felt like I time traveled. It was such a weird experience. I can easily see how people get hooked.

  2. Suck it, Delhi!

You know, this is insane. Nay! This is SPARTA! Or at least Azeroth. Either way, whenever I try to imagine the scope, I can’t help but remember that we’re talking about 4th largest CITY. BLAAAARGH!

  3. Hm…. 11.5 million x Let’s say 13 dollars a month= $149,500,000 per month. Whew. Plus the cost of WOW and the expansions. Lots of $ for Blizzard lol.

  4. Yep i’m one of the addicts after leaving the game 1 month ago and saying to myself “that’s it no more WOW for me”, i kind of reactivated my subscription yesterday lol

  5. I froze my account in April, but when I get Wrath of the Lich King tomorrow, I’ll be back in full swing to pwn noobs…

    PS. ALLIANCE FTW!!!

  6. Why do you think so many players drop out of collage? To join Blizzard’s army!

I hear their most dangerous position is to stand in place and hold a sword up in a cliched but very cool way.
