New Zelda in 2009?

zeldaAt least, that’s what analyst Colin Sebastian is predicting with his apparently magnificent prophesying abilities. In a report to investors, this dude listed a bunch of games up for release this year, and included the mention of a new Zelda title.

Seeing as how the last game released with the Wii in November 2006, this doesn’t seem to be too far off the mark. Given Nintendo’s track record in the last two years, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them bust out some crazy release dates on people part of the way through 2009. They did the same thing just this year with Mario Kart Wii, a flagship title for the console.

So what do you guys think? Excited at the potential of a new Zelda game dropping this year? What improvements or features do you hope Nintendo’s added to the mix? To think, you could have two games to play on your Wii instead of just the one. I kid. But really, share your thoughts.

  1. I hope it doesn’t suck.
I predict that people will be begging “PLEASE make the characters talk!!” You know what? No. That’d ruin the classic feel. You can’t have a Zelda game where the people talk! It’s just not right.
Another thing: they better not make another Toon Link game. That fad has come and gone (hopefully), and I didn’t mind it so much in Wind Waker because it was a new thing.

  2. A repeat of Twilight Princess sits fine with me TBH. No talking characters, same look as TP and some more solid game play. A difficulty setting would be nice as well. Although I guess people already made their own difficulty by not picking up Heart Pieces. I really didn’t find TP as easy as everyone else seemed to find it though.

As long as I can give rude names to my horse, I am happy.

  3. Due to the lack of a Wii, I won’t be getting it. Let’s see if they can hold up to their ‘better than Ocarina of Time’ mantra. Personally I doubt that they could do it without making it feel recycled, but we’ll see.

  4. I’m in the same shoes as Yahtzee over at Zero Punctuation, I played TP before I played OoT and I honestly found TP better.

It’s all about the nostalgia feel to it really. Because with Mario I found Super Mario 64 better then Galaxy but my friend much prefers Galaxy because he never played 64 as a kid.

  5. hopefully, they’ll keep up with the more darker feel of TP and OoT. Wind Waker was good while it lasted, though. Maybe if they merged the two, they’d find a winning recipe.

I’ve always loved all the Zelda games. They’re a shining example of how an adventure game should really play.

I second this, going through a dungeon where you need a second person to help you swing across gaps (like with the monkeys in TP), take down a boss (One person distracts it the other hits the tail) and use special items (How about bow super accuracy where the second person helps you hold steady in a totally non gay fashion). Of course there are many awesome possibilities that they could implement.

I think it would be a good idea. The only problem is if they make it like Sonic ie. REALLY ANNOYING. Anyway if Link were to speak it would be in hyrulian so we wouldn’t understand! Maybe if it was like Wanda in SotC? Would that work?

  8. No speaking!

The music and the the general gasps and cheers etc. are enough. The music in itself tells a story and I find reading the text faster, more fun and much more enthralling.

There really isn’t much reason for them to speak unless Ninty were to presume that the majority of people can’t read.

Voices would probably sound awful anyway. Take a look at any zelda game…or cartoon with voice work in it. It’s dam awful!

I always find it stupid when your character is the only person in the world who is unable to speak.

I for one find it much more interesting to play as a Silent Protagonist for 2 main reasons:
1 – It allows you to develop your own personality in your mind for who you are playing as
2 – It gives people like Ross Scott the chance to make awesome stuff like Freeman’s Mind XD
