Playstation Home Launches Tomorrow

So Playstation Home launches on December 11th, 2008 and… wait. That’s tomorrow. Home is only a day away. That’s right, in just about 24 hours, you can be browsing your own version of Second Life for the Playstation 3, complete with avatars, emoticons, and all the advertising your heart is wet for.

While Sony claims that this is totally groundbreaking and unique, I just don’t know if I can see this thing through rose tinted glasses the way they can. I’m not sure if users will really spend a whole lot of time in it when they could be, you know, playing games.

What about you guys? Any of you excited for Playstation Home?

  1. This is just the Beta becomming publicaly available to everyone. Sounds interesting. Free stuff is only a download (and delete if its shit) away so why not? I mean, giving your avatar? Ratchet ears? Yes please! Now I want a Quark mask. Also I’ve heared Trophies can be used as a form of currency. If so: I’m richer than my friends!

  2. This will probably be the biggest game on PS3 yet. What’s that you say? It’s not a game? O my bad…looks like we’ll be stuck playing LittleBigPlanet for the rest of our lives. Shame on me though, there are a few good games out there, but this won’t keep the PS3 from being inferior for yet another year. It just needs that one big Gears of War or Halo type game to do for it what those games did to Xbox.

  3. Yea I know it’s not trying to be, cause it’s not really a game. I was just using Halo and Gears because they part of what has made the 360 so much more popular thus far. The PS3 just needs titles that can do the same thing for it.

  4. This is just too far ahead of its times. People will use it, but it isn’t a game, and won’t replace one. If there was a way to implement it in a steam overlay-esque fashion, it’d be a lot more popular. Being realistic, though, that just wouldn’t work with today’s technology. Ah, well. It’ll be fun, but probably not groundbreaking.

  5. Dude I’m excited!!! I like playing little games like they have on Home. Pool, bowling, arcade, plane racing! Ya… most people would say that its stupid and would rather be playing full games, but I think the little games could be fun for bit. And if they have the whole virtual stereos and such, that could be cool too, share your music with others.

  6. Never was that big on this kind of stuff, but I am happy that enough people seem to enjoy it. I hope it does good, though I doubt it could compare to halo/gears for the PS3. they really do need something like that right now… oh well
