Zelda Producer Aims to Beat Ocarina of Time

Ah, the good old Legend of Zelda series. How Nintendo needs you. How long will you keep getting shoveled out?

The man behind the Zelda franchise for the past few years, Eiji Aonuma, said in an interview recently that he won’t stop making Zelda games until he has made one that surpasses Ocarina of Time. Seeing as how that game is declared “OmG B3ST EvAR” from fans and gaming sites alike, that’s probably not a bad thing. Though one might think that if he hasn’t done it yet, will he able to do it now?

Here’s the quote:

I’m happy that a title I worked on some time ago remains highly praised to this day, but that also shows how none of the subsequent games in the series have surpassed it. As someone who is still working on the series, I have mixed feelings about that. Because I haven’t yet surpassed it, I can’t quit. Surprisingly, that simply motivation may be the reason I continue to work on the Zelda series.

More passionate developers=better games for us. Keep at it, good sir! What do you guys think about the Zelda franchise? Going in the right direction, or staying stagnant?

  1. I don’t know… I think it’s staying stagnuat. There isnt more to it to sword fighting.
Well If the have an online co-op thingy, that will be nice.

  2. Going the right direction i hope. I love all the zelda games from Ocarina of Time and up (haven’t played any of the others.

  3. They need another one with an Ocarina. I loved using it. I hated Wind Waker. Partly because of that instrument or what ever it was you used. The Ocarina sounded great.

Something like that is such a small part of the game that I tend to look past it. It was fun to explore the seas and I loved the animation.

  5. My gamecube memory card got corrupted, I have to start my Windwaker file over again. 🙁 I think the series is going in the right direction. Ocarina of Time is an excellent game. I don’t think the zelda series needs any radical changes at this point. It’s doing pretty good as it is now.

  6. tbh i loved ocarina, but i really liked Majoras mask…not to say that it was better, but i think it def had better side stories…plus once you got the fierce dietys mask, it was so much fun to just beat the everloving poo outa the majoras mask…i think if they wanna suprass ocarina they have to

    1. put the ocarina back in it
    2. have a new villian ( like they did in majoras mask, how many times can u kill ganon?)

I would love a zelda game that would expand on the story of the Sheikah (sp?)…i really liked them in OOT and would love to have a game go into depth on them
