Rumor: PS4 Specs?

So once again, I wonder aloud- is it already time for the next gen (you’ll see more about that this weekend)? A rumor has been going around about the potential PS4 specs. Apparently, Sony has sent out some stuff to developers asking for feedback on a few specs that they have in mind.

When is Sony planning on launching this? 2011, by the looks of it. Wow.

It seems initially that Sony is abandoning the “bigger and better” mentality, instead opting for more of the Nintendo route, ie: developing at a lower cost. I guess gamers showed Sony that they need to think twice before charging them out the wazoo for a console- loyalty only stretches a few hundred dollars I suppose.

Anywho, the rumor says they could be sticking with Cell technology, and doubling the power of the current PS3 (much like the GameCube to the Wii) instead of huge-ifying it like they just did. I’m sure that right now, especially in these times, it’s more appealing to think of a lower cost console, what with the PS3 sitting in last place in sales and still boasting the most expensive one of the bunch.

Personally, this just irks me to hear this after all of Sony’s talk of a 10 year cycle, as opposed to 5 or 6. Can we get some more actual PS3 games before we start talking about PS4? Maybe?

What do you guys think about all this?

  1. It’s too soon to release the next gen of consoles. How long has it been since the beginning of this latest gen? 2, 3, 4 years? It’s just getting started!

  2. Scary. Seriously though, this is ridiculous that we are moving this fast. But to be honest, I say we are on a big rift in technology. I thin HD is about to get outdone, there are already things better than HD out there. Its natural it will move to the game world.

Even so though…too many consoles. 🙁 I dont want to buy a new one every 4 years.

  3. Gawd that kind of sucks, but I can’t help but want to see what they’ll make xD
Hmmm….JUST doubling the power of the ps3? ….o.0

  4. This is precisely why I abandoned consoles after the Xbox. PCs function fine as a console, and they can do other stuff, to boot. To me, paying more for something that I know will last is better than buying a new console every five to seven years.

  5. I meant wait instead of want….and speaking of playstation, has anyone else gotten in to the resistance 2 open beta?

I have yet to have a PC that is top of the line. With a console you can get that, and for less than a grand by far. PCs….no you cant. And they update too fast. Now a PC can run a game adequately and not be top of the line, but a console wont change, sot eh games wont demand more. On a PC they will.
