O Noz! Worldwide LittleBigPlanet Delay!

Wow. In news that’s just downright shocking, it was announced today that LittleBigPlanet is being recalled worldwide, which will result in a delay. The game was supposed to release this next week, but will now be shipped again on Oct. 27th.

The reason? Apparently, there are some audible phrases of the Qu’ran playing in the background of a portion of the soundtrack. It seems that a group wrote to Media Molecule informing them that mixing music and the Qu’ran is deeply offensive to muslims, so all copies of the game are being pulled worldwide.

It makes me wonder how this is any different than when the catholic church in England complained about the Resistance level that took place in a church. At that point, nothing was really done, but here Sony recalls a game worldwide. Both instances are kind of nuts.

If anybody happened to get a copy early, you might want to hold on to that thing- could be worth a pretty penny in the future. Who else is upset by the delay of this game?

  1. omg omg omg!
This sucks. Majorly. It’s only a week, but still.

I think Resistance was already out when the Church got involved and that whole incident probably made Sony wary, so they delayed LBP to avoid any backlash.

  2. I’m pretty sure there are games, movies, cartoons, etc. out there that are inherently offensive to most religions…they don’t pull those games. So I guess they only pull it if the offensive content is on accident. You know, because that make SO much sense.

  3. I lifted this little gem from Kotaku. Apparently the lyrics, when translated, mean this:

1- In the 18th second: “كل نفس ذائقة الموت” (“kollo nafsin tha’iqatol mawt”, literally: ‘Every soul shall have the taste of death’).

2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: “كل من عليها فان” (“kollo man alaiha fan”, literally: ‘All that is on earth will perish’).

Sooo…Yeah… I can see why this would be a bit offensive. (if it’s true, that is)

  4. Will this now be a worldwide release? Or will I still have to wait for another friggin week 4 it? Damn my european heritage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Also, it wasn’t the Catholic church. Manchester Cathedral is Protestant. Church of England for the exact denomination

Ah, thanks for the correction! I couldn’t remember exactly which church it was, but mis-remembered that it was catholic. My bad.
