Halo 3: Recon is Not DLC

After the debut of Halo 3: Recon earlier today, people were speculating about the nature of the game’s release. Is it DLC, a simple expansion, a full game?

Well, word has come down that Halo 3: Recon drops in Fall 2009 and will in fact be a standalone DVD, complete with Forge, new multiplayer maps, 4 player co-op, all the normal Halo fixes. And apparently, people (including myself) have been wrong about the idea that the game is squad based.

While the game is set to be similar to other Halo experiences, it “will require players to employ more elements of stealth and cunning than ever before”, according to Microsoft. Metal Gear Halo? We’ll see how that works out.

  1. Wow, this will be interesting then (Since its not squad based) A guy on my friends list is speculating it might include the other Spartans but I doubt it, if they did I would be surprised.

This should be cool. But Im wondering about the mechanics. If we are just human ODST, Im fairly certain they DONT HAVE SHIELDS. I cant remember if the book ever said they did. This could make things veeeeery interesting.

  2. I’m still excited for Halo 3 Recon. But I wonder how they’ll balance Halo 3 and Halo 3 Recon. I mean, are they going to focus more on Recon and neglect Halo 3?

  3. Other then Master Chief the other Spartans are in Onyx or the Grey team where no one knows where they are. So my best guess would be human. As well since Humans are weaker it would make sense to b more stealthy and not just running in being killed instantly. But who knows.

  4. It sucks that its not Master Chief. Introducing a new character that nobody knows or cares about is going to suck. Bungie also said this will be the last thing they work on for Halo. So it has me upset 🙁

No one cared about Master Chief until you played as him in the first Halo. Give the new guy a shot, you might like him.

Also, Master Chief has zero personality, so does anyone really care about him anway?

  6. While I understand that last argument Anthony, it’s hard to quantify. The guy seemed to have zero personality or connectivity, but playing as the Arbiter in Halo 2 (instead of the Chief) didn’t feel nearly as badass, and I have no idea why.

  7. I dunno. Maybe it’s the idea of being something that is known on the battlefield as an unstoppable force. And no one care about Master Chief until Halo came out because he didn’t exist before it came out. And he has personality. He just doesn’t talk much. But ya…I’ll give the new guy a shot. I’m always on the lookout for cool characters.
