Forgive me for being a Final Fantasy noob, but FFX was my fave. Yes Tidus WAS a bit annoying, but the sphere grid, i thought worked well. It encouraged you not to pick favourites (until way into the game) and forced you to think strategically. Isn't that what turn-based games are all about?
I disagree, respectfully. The Sphere Grid forced you on a set path until late in the game and then allowed you to pick a new path for your party, which helped, but not as much as it could have. The License board was a much better system.

And there was not a lot of strategy to think about. If you had a flying fiend, use Wakka or Lulu, an armored fiend use Auron. No strategy, just color by numbers, so to speak.

Yeah, the Draw method drove me just nuts in VIII. One of the worst things ever. I literally would just run out of magic sometimes, and I thought maybe I was doing it wrong.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. Worked hard on this, hehe.

VII's story can be a little hard to follow (was that Jenova or Seph doing this or that?)but still lots of fun. Ending was kind of...eh.

VIII was alove story and was decent and I did like the Junction system, just the Draw method and using summons was annoying.

I am going to replay IX soon, I think. Only played it once.

I loved the gameplay in FFXII but the story made me not want to play, there wasn't enough cutscenes for me + the sotry wasn't that addictive - some "queen" wanting power again or something like that, i personally don't care xD i like the turn based system too but i prefer the style FFXII has(it reminded me of FFXI but insta-group). What I found in FFXII was i was better off not using those mega power attacks, but use the mp u should use on them on healing spells or black magic, its a lot more fun and its more traditional in terms of a challenge >< anyway back on track, the turn bases systems in the previous ff games were good but they weren't the best in my oppinion.

Nice post, Anthony. I agree that FFIX is underrated. And while the materia system is great in FFVII, the lack of any real classes kind of hinders the gameplay.

For me, the story in that one is so good, it just takes the cake, though. I hated the system in VIII, and the story. I am surprised how often people list it as one of the greats.
