Creating an XBox Mii, Er, Avatar

Apparently my XBot is showing today, as I bring even more news from the MS front. Once again, Gamerscore Blog has updated this week with some new info about the features of the upcoming new XBox Experience, an update to the 360’s dashboard.

This week covers the creation of Avatars for you to use as part of your Gamertag, and I have to say that I like some of the options. While there are lots complaining about them being glorified Miis, that is 100 percent correct. However, Nintendo hates all things related to the Internet, so the Miis just live in loneliness on your Wii. Here, they go out into the wild and flourish.

  1. There’s a bit less cutesy than miis but still really similar. They still look neat though. And these will probably do more since they’re tied with your gamertag and as Eddy said, Nintnedo hates all things related to the internet so unless you play Mario Kart, no one else will ever see your miis.

  2. Looks good. Just watch out for the complainers, stampedes of them are known to crush gaming forums in a flash.

  3. Sigh…no sign of an option to turn off or disable Avatars. What about the many MANY people who just don’t want an Avatar? Do we have to be forced to adopt them?

(note that at this time of watching I have no sound on the computer, so if they mentioned something regarding this, please correct me)

I’m pretty sure that you can ignore the whole thing if you’re not interested. But yeah, I could be wrong about that.

  5. I’m not really against the whole thing but the more I look at it, the more I get this feeling that Microsoft looked at a Wii and then said “Hey, that was pretty successful, lets do something similar.” Not saying they did, but that’s the feeling I get. And with an Xbox 360 it just doesn’t feel like it fits in with the whole experience.

  6. I actually had the same feeling about the avatar thing when you debuted it. I was like, really? It just seemed kind of tacked on to the whole experience. You’re right, it’s probably a reaction to both Miis, but even moreso, to “Home”. It feels like a bizarre combo of the two.
