Coming Soon: Guitars Gently Weeping

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are the latest craze with everyone these days. This is a game that I would call a casual game, no question. And big rumblings coming courtesy of EGM’s gossip monger Quartermann:

The long (And Winding Road) fight over who gets the Fab Four is near an end and it looks like the Beatles will be coming to…GUITAR HERO! No word yet on whether the Moptops get their own game, like Aerosmith did or whether they will simply be in the next Guitar Hero game. EGM cautions that this likely won’t see the (Inner) light of day (Tripper) until 2010, but as a huge Beatles fan, I am excited. I had almost given up on Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but this might pull me (Get) back into the fray.

Seriously, I have read over 50 books on the Beatles and I have every album and rare track I can find. This is big news to the benefit of (Mr. Kite) music fans everywhere, IF it turns out to be accurate. I have no reason to doubt this as I have seen Quartermann be right on a great many things from Ratchet and Clank’s downloadable game to Bioshock coming to the PS3.

That being said, what bands would you like to see get a Guitar Hero or Rock Band standalone title? My pick: Radiohead or maybe the Smiths. Those two and the Beatles are my Top Three favorite bands of all time. What do you wanna rock out to?

  1. GH and RB are really stupid in my opinion. I am one who believes if yous pent that much time actually playing a guitar you could play them for real (a la the South Park episode) And I dont think they are that fun.

If I DID like the games though, I would want to see more non mail stream bands. Keep digging into other bands, perhaps try unknown local bands and use it to help them get out there in the world. A better variety would be good.

Ugh RB and GH. GO FRAG SOME 12YR OLDS! XD

  2. Well, I understand that you don’t find them fun, many millions do.

I like them ok, but I get tired of them rather fast.

There a few non mainstream bands that are getting downloadable tracks for Rock Band, but most people want to play the songs they know.

  3. GH is alrite the selection can definitely get boring. Some Beatles would really add something to the game. But I really want some Led Zeppelin and Some Jimi Hendrix that would be awesome.

  4. I guess I can see how some people can find these games to be fun, but they kind of piss me off, for a few reasons.

For one thing, as someone who plays the real guitar, it maddens me the way that most good GH/RB players tend to think they’re badass rockstars because they can press buttons really fast.

On top of that, some music, like The Beatles and The Dead Kennedys, is sacred, and meant to be appreciated as great Rock and Roll, not a sound track for some overrated video game. It’s the equivalent of turning Beethoven’s Ninth into an 8 bit midi clip and using it as your ringtone. Why not instead just take a dump on his grave?

    I guess this just means I’m a rocker before I’m a gamer.

  5. I never played guitar hero before. It looks great with all those great music in it, except heavy metal…
I’m kind of a fan of DDR too. Very fun.

  6. I’m a casual GH fan, and the one band I would love to see on GH would be Linkin Park…
Now that would make me buy the game.

I think they are pretending. No one thinks they are really guitar gods from playing the game.

And the main thing most people forget, even us music snobs, is that the people who make music want it to be heard! So if it happens on the radio or in a movie or in a game, what matters is your art is getting out there to people.

  8. Haha, this is priceless. People are still getting pissed because some people have more fun with GH/RB than real instruments. NEWS FLASH: Some people don’t want to spend their time learning an instrument and would rather have fun.

    Cry some more.
