Sony Fanboy Rant: Trophies vs. Achievements

DISCLAIMER: ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED IN THIS COLUMN ARE SOLELY THOSE OF A TYPICAL SONY FANBOY. GAMERSUSHI.COM IS MERELY A VEHICLE FOR THIS CONSOLE WARRIOR TO WIELD HIS BLADES OF FURY AT MICROSOFT AND NINTENDO. SHOULD OTHER FANBOYS WISH TO OPINE, THEY ARE FREE TO DO SO.

For eons it seems, I have been forced to listen to 360 fanboys declare the glory of Achievements. What a joke. Achievements? Anyone can achieve something. Just think of Little Lebowski’s Urban Achievers. Proud we are of all of them? I THINK NOT. Aren’t Achievements what they hand out at the Special Olympics in lieu of medals?

Now Trophies are something different. It takes a man to WIN a Trophy. Anyone can EARN an Achievement. All they seem to do is EARN them by playing crap for kids like My Little Pony: Pinkie’s Pie Party, which is a real game, but sounds like something I get as a bonus for my subscription to a certain adult website. You know, the kind of website the 12 year olds on Xbox Live can’t see without stealing their dad’s credit card.

Did Michael Phelps get any Achievements for breaking all those World Records? No. He got Trophies. Sure, they were shaped like medals, but I know a Trophy when I see one. Those were Trophies. He didn’t achieve anything, he WON things. And that’s why Trophies are better than Achievements. Yeah, I know that only 3 or 4 games currently have Trophy support, but more are coming every day week month. This allows us all to start on a level playing field.

So remember that anyone can earn an Achievement, but it takes a real man to win a Trophy. Even if what you have to do to win a trophy is the exact same thing you would have to do to earn an achievement, it’s still different. Because of the spelling.

  1. It should be noted that occasionally we will post one of these for each console, and they are not serious. Just taking the point of view of a typical fanboy for that console.

Also, that picture made me do a literal lol.

  2. Yeah, this is not just a sony thing, this will be a tongue in cheek rant against all that stuff.

Like that pic, huh? I was trying to find what epitomized a sony fanboy and I typed in kratos cos on google and…BAM. All my dreams were realized.

  3. haha love it.

This is definitely spot on for a PS3 Fan boy. Now as for the Wii Fanboys, all they can talk about is how their controllers are named after weapons of the martial arts. and how many motion sports remakes they have.

  4. Achievements? Trophies?
It’s all the same to me…
as long as I get my Sandvich in Team Fortress 2, I’m fine with it…
If Sony Fanboys cared more about inproving their gameming skills that just stick around pointing out flaws that don’t exist, a new world for gamers would rise…

Maybe I should call it Gametopia…

  5. Haha nice,

I am a Sony Fanboy myself and I can say… you’re not too far off from some of them xD.

  6. Pro Boy, what do you mean, improving their game skills? Do you have some proof that PS3 players are less skilled than other console players?

  7. I didn’t say that! What I mean is that they should spend more time improving their skills (as everyone should, because skills are never too much) instead of going around saying stuff that doesn’t matter. It’s like that thing with Diablo and the scenarios that were not too gory for the fanboys, I guess…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a PS3 player myself! But there are some attitudes that still shock me…
    I’m sorry if I offended anyone… I’m just trying fuel the discussion…

    Now i could really use a sandvich…

  8. lol rnt that the same for all the consoles? There are fanatics who play every console, but that doesn’t represent all the people who game on consoles….

No offense taken! I was just trying to understand more clearly what you were saying. I agree that fanboys on all sides spend too much time worrying about what other people think. Maybe they are insecure and need to justify themselves to other people?

Regardless, thats what these Fanboy Rants are for. To show how utterly crazy these kinds of things are.

  10. I really don’t understand the difference between Trophies and Achievements? Trophies are harder to get?

No, they are the exact same thing.

The joke of the column is that they are identical, but the clueless Fanboy writing it is trying to make his side (Sony) seem like its better, when there is no difference at all.

  12. Hah, this reminds me of all the LIVE games I’ve been booted from, simply because my Achievement points were under 5k. Some ten-year-old on RSV would say something like, “Hey, we don’t want him on our team, he’s terrible! Look at his gamerscore!” To which the only response is to point out that my score was twenty kills higher and my K/D spread +17.

But it simply isn’t enough. I need to have rented fifty cheap games just to rack up points for a value that has absolutely nothing to do with actual player ability. What a stupid little noobito I am to forget that!

I imagine those poor fanbois on the other side of the isle fair much the same.

Wow, I have never heard of that! What a little jerk. Yeah, Trophies and Achievements are nice, but I don’t have enough to play crappy games just to get a high score.

When people refuse to let me join a clan on Call of Duty 4 b/c my K/D rate is not very good, its because I play high death games like HQ and Sabotage. They don’t play those modes just so they can keep their score up, which means nothing in the end, lol.
